Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen with a fiance working in the US under H1B visa.
She is from a US visa waiver country and her passport allows a few months stay in Canada.

She will quit her job at the end of the year and we will get married overseas in early 2015 and then I will start the sponsoring process as she remains in her country of birth for several months.

Anyhow, she has a car that we would like to use in canada after we're married.
The car is paid off and she possesses an American license and insurance.
Would she have any problem driving the US plated car across the canadian border as a visitor?

In general there should be no problem, as long as CBSA is satisfied she is only a VISITOR to Canada. So the car should not be loaded up with furniture and tons of personal items.

She can not actually import the car to Canada until she lands as a PR. Until then while here as visitor (so during entire time PR app is processing) the car is also a visitor, and must be insured and registered in the US. It's good to inform the US insurance company that the car will be in Canada for an extended time, to see if there are any adjustments they need to make.

You can't register/insure the car in Canada until it's officially imported.

Sorry to hijack this question with a related question.

Rob, I'm hoping your able to help me. I'm a bit confused about importing a car from the US. After my family lands the "actual" move will take place a few months later. I plan to import our cars into Canada, but not at the time of our initial move. I was hoping to import our cars once we're settled, probably a few months later. Do you see an issue with this?

Thanks! ;D
