I moved last year august 2020 from USA to Canada.

Can i filed tax for Canada and USA separately? Or do i need to disclose income from Canada to USA and disclose income from USA to Canada?

I was not a USA citizen or Green card holder. I was on h1b

Thank you

If you moved to Canada permanently and have no immediate plans to go back to USA, you will file a Non resident return in USA. In US return you don't need to show income from Canada. However, in Canada you will have to show full world income including what was earned in US. You will pay taxes on that income in Canada and get a refund from US.

I was in a very similar situation when I landed in Canada. Here’s what I did(Of course, through tax consultant). Since you would not have established your residence in Canada in the beginning of 2020, you would not have to pay tax for that (US) income however need to record that (US) income in CRA(Tax consultants can help here). Also, you need to file your Canadian tax return after you are done with the US tax return as that’s a prerequisite document. For the US part, you need to file tax returns with your W2 but don’t have to show Canadian income there unless you are GC or US Citizen.
