Moved back to Canada - how should I update this to IRCC?

Hey there - I'm the sponsor in an outland spousal sponsorship. I was living in the U.S.A. when I submitted my application, and have now moved back to Canada. I'm not quite yet at my ultimate permanent address, as I just got here. When/how should I go about updating IRCC with my new address and the information that I've moved back? (It's pertinent to my application, as I understand that they want proof of intent to return to Canada when both sponsor and applicant are outland). Also - should I do it right away, or wait until I get to a permanent address?

I do have GCKey, so please note that.

Send in a webform with your updated contact information. I would also include proof that you have moved back to Canada like a copy of your lease, proof of your current job in Canada, etc.

When you say a webform, what do you mean? Do you have a specific link that I should follow? I'm going to submit as soon as I get my proof together (Driver's license and such). I'm still getting my roots down after quarantine, so I don't have all of my proof of return together that I'd like. I was going to submit as soon as I got my driver's license and Canadian plates on my car. Should I do that, or should I submit my change of address right now and submit my proof of return later on? (My wife is still at our old address, so I'm not really worried about missing correspondence, especially because our stuff comes online through GCKey. I mainly just want to show proof of intent to return to Canada through my moving home.) Also - I'm at my temporary address (mom's basement lol) until mid-July. Should I wait to submit until I get to my permanent spot?

Webfrom is just the generic webform for any questions, comments or updates for IRCC. You are getting close to the one year mark so I would update with some proof of your relocation as soon as possible to hopefully prevent a request for more proof that you and your spouse will be relocating back to Canada. Do you have proof of a signed lease even if you haven’t moved in? That can be attached and submitted via webform. Any accounts or utilities set up in your name like bank account, phone or credit card? How did you enter Canada? Proof that you entered Canada can help. Did you leave your job in the US? That can be provided as proof. Find a new job in Canada or proof that you are applying for them would be proof as well. A letter from your mother can be included saying that she is happy to provide you with a temporary home in Canada before you find your own but family letters are weak proof in general. Think the goal is to provide some evidence to at least prove that you have moved back to Canada and then you can add more evidence as you start to collect more.

I see! Do you have a link to the form, or is it somewhere within the GCkey website? I just opened a bank account, and I'm arbitrarily close to getting my driver's license and Canadian plates, just have a few small-ish hoops to jump through still. I entered Canada by land border, and have proof of my imported goods complete w/ border stamp, along with some receipts from a brokerage service that I used for my car. I've started a new job, and won't get a paycheck with them until a week from this coming Friday, but I can get a letter from them. My mom would be happy to write a letter, but like you said, I'd be better off having more concrete proof.

I'll start pulling that stuff together. In terms of the actual "change of address" link that was posted above, should I do that once I'm in my permanent address, or should I submit it once for my temp address, and submit it again once I move to my final address?

https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/web-form.asp. Proof of importing your car and other goods is great proof to add to the list. A letter from your new job is also great proof. The proof of pay check isn’t a necessity although another bit of proof. The change of address isn’t the big issue. Think you can change it now then change it again once you move into your new home or a few days before. If you have final destination sounds like you may have a lease or deed. As we were talking about before the goal is really to hopefully provide information early enough to stop a request for more proof that you will be relocating to Canada. With the proof of your new job and import of goods and maybe a lease you may already satisfy the requirements for proof although I would send in some more evidence once you get it as long as it isn’t an ordeal to secure. If you are already living and working in Canada the process becomes so much easier.

I agree with the suggestions above.

But I'd also prioritize advising IRCC soon, even if you don't have every possible document or proof - this is a case where the perfect could be the enemy of the good. You don't want to wait two months for driver's license or some other doc to come through.

Advise you are in Canada and update address with what you have soonest, and collect/prepare others and supplement later when/if needed.

These are pretty solid proof, especially along with everything else you've mentioned.

Kay so my wife got approved before I got a chance to update this I think (she received her passport request letter) - what do I do? Should I still just update my address with IRCC? I’m listed as the representative on the application. My worry is that they’ll try to send the COPR to me in Canada if I update (which isn’t the worst I guess, given that I’ll probably be going to get her from the states.)

let me know. I have a feeling that submitting the evidence is less relevant now because she is approved I believe?

Congrats. If she indeed got the passport request, that's approved.

Since she got the email presumably with instructions to submit to visa office (in NY?), do that. I'd still suggest updating your address but personally I'd wait until after she gets her COPR back - for precisely the reason you mention, why disturb when already in progress.

yep! She has been instructed to submit passport photos (she is in the USA, so she only has to send her photos, and not her entire passport, correct?)

and yes, it’s New York. Thanks for the guidance! I’ll wait on updating the address.

Yes, for USA citizen, no need to submit passport.
