More than 10 year pay slips or tax paid asked for work permit

Hi everyone ,
After receiving positive Lmia, went for work Permit at the border(inside) Canada , was asked to provide proof of tax paid for my 16 years ago job . He just had a letter from employer as a proof that He was employed. It’s been more than 10 years and that employer doesn’t have any data . Anybody can suggest the best reply .

Did you not keep at least a copy of your NOAs? CRA could probably provide you with your NOAs. Did you pay tax on all your income? It's an odd request so there must be some concern.

I was on cash payment and company had records that time... it’s been 16 years now .. had no plans of coming over

Just to clarify you worked in Canada previously but were paid in cash and never paid taxes and your employer may not have either.

I did explained but officer insisted to get me proof from government. Any further advice can u provide.

Well there is no excuse for working in cash and not paying your taxes especially if you were on a temporary permit. Obviously someone has figured out your error and you may not be able to obtain a wp.

Peach arch...but in my 12 years of business I pay tax and of 10 years record is available.. that was like 16 years ago

So your employer is saying he doesn’t have the data ? Have him call the CRA Business Line
Have his Business Number available, he can request copies of any payroll , and corporation tax payable in the past since his business began. If he’s paid taxes historical data will be there, if not , well , guess that answers the question whether you paid as well or it was part of the underground economy

No offence meant but I have no sympathy for those not willing to pay into a system that everyone derives benefits from. May be the system in some countries, but in Canada, you get access to substantial benefits by paying into it.

Hi thx for the reply at that time I was like a trainee for few months and doing part time the owner used to pay cash only .

Then you probably didn’t pay tax. I’d say you’re hooped!
