Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi All ,

I will land to Montreal , Quebec Soon
I wish Montreal Experts to help me to find suitable place to live and starting my life
according to the following:

1) Medium rent Place ( affordable ) but not slums
2) To be near Public transportation ( Metro stations, Buses stations)
3) No insects

Example : ( In USA )
People work in NYC , while they live in Jersey city Or Brooklyn

what's the places & Neighborhood you recommend for me ?

Hi Harlish

I am no expert on this matter - but I have been here for about 2 months now (not long enough to get a clear picture of the neighborhoods). The good news for you (probably you are already know this anyway) is that housing in Montreal is usually affordable (compared to Toronto or major Canadian cities).

Are you keeping an eye on Craigslist? and Kijiji? You will get an idea of the rental prices in the city.

While walking around in the city - I see many affordable housing in the downtown core. And I think the atmosphere here is quite vibrant - it is also largely English speaking. Thus, my first suggestion would be that you find a temporary accomodation here at Centre Ville/Downtown - and then look around the city and find a long-term accomodation based on your convenience and preference.

Goodluck with this move.

But are there insects. Insects are virtually everywhere ;D

That I am afraid I can't help you with.

Of course, you can always look up reports on http://bedbugregistry.com/location/QC/ but I seriously doubt that all buildings are reported here.

hi Harlish,

i moved to Montreal 2 months back from Dubai and living in short term rental in 2125 st Marc street, its furnished suit with 32 inch LCD,PHONE,Internet etc,in Downtown rents start from 800 to 1500 CAD for 1 bedroom on yearly lease and 1300 to 3000 for furnished with monthly lease.
most of building are old in this area with lower rents but apartments are renovated.

metro is just 2 min walk (Guy-Concordia) and very good Indian restaurant near by.(thali)non veg combo 9 CAD and Veg combo 8 CAD superb taste.

most of Indians live in PARC and rents are very low over there but houses are in bad shape.

plz let me know if you have any further questions.

The bad news about living in Montreal is that there is no respect for neighbours regarding partying, loud music, etc....

Sometimes living in slums is much better than living downtown to next to some aspiring DJ or a porn studio who will keep you awake until 5am. Another reason rent is cheaper in Montreal is because most "condos" (a rather generous word) are built out of paper. There are very, very few buildings that are built up to proper standards. Be very careful when renting in Montreal. I used to live in a Condo accross china town that was managed by Holiday Inn (a 5 year old building) and many other more expensive places. They were all noisy and cheaply built. It am living in Toronto now, have rented a few lower end buildings and have never experienced a disrespect like in Montreal.

Be careful!

@ all landed seniors,
Please I need an apartment( a one bedroom) in cote des Negris for a few months (1 or 2). I have been repeatedly advised to search online, the ones I got are in the east side and the agents involved advised me to go west-ward. Please can anyone help me out? A member of the forum in Montreal is actually helping in this regard (he is ready to help checkout any online choice i make) The problem is I found it difficult to make a choice. this is because, take for an example a building with 99 units (flats ) and a vacant one bed room is advertised, how do one check out who his to-be neighbors will be? (security wise) I strongly feel this matters a lot so that one does not pay for an apartment that one will be so scared to live in. I need help please. I plan landing in early march please.

Thank you all
