Hi All,

I'm a Canadian citizen.

My mom's supervisa and passport is expiring on Jan 23, 2021. I'm planning to book her tickets from India to Canada on Oct16, 2020.

Will she be allowed entry just more than 3 months before passport expiry?

If yes, once she is here, can I apply for a new visitor visa for more 6 months before her supervisa expires?

Thanks in advance.

If i were you, you renew her passport. And if she enter canada. Bring her old passport with the seal or stamp of visa. She can enter canada until her visa expire. (Ex. Jan 22,2021) and once she is inside Canada, its up to the immigration if they give her passport a stamp of date( 1-3 month) or just a stamp and no date ( automatic good for 6 months)
The visa expiry in her passport is no related the day she arrive here.
(Like me, my visa expire May 31,2020. I arrived here March 16, 2020. And i went to lwyer to asked if i need to go home before my visa expire(May 31, 2020). But the lawyer said it does not matter. What matter is the date you landed in Canada. And if the immigration in airport doesnt put any date in the stamp of arrival then its automatic i can stayfor 6 months.) so your mom is safe till nextyear Jan 22. So renew her passport so she can travel

Hi All,

I'm a Canadian citizen.

Just for background, this is my mom's 3rd visit to canada on supervisa. On previous two occassions, she stayed for just 6 months and went back to India.

My mom's supervisa and passport is expiring on Jan 23, 2021. My mom arrived in Canada on 17 oct, 2020.

When she landed, she told the POE offficer that she wants to stay for 1 year on supervisa. But due to her pp expiring soon, the officer gave her a visitor record with expiry on 23 dec, 2020 and medical required for any extension

I got her passport renewed and is now valid until year 2030 and also medical done.

Below are my queries:

1) I will apply for a new visitor record extension. Can i apply for visitor record extension for more than 6 months(until oct2021)?
2) for extension, they are asking to provide proof of funds for stay in canada. But she came on supervisa with 1 year of medical insurance. If she is sponsored to come here, do I still need to show her proof of funds?
3) what do i write in the Funds for stay in extension application form?

Kindly help asap!! I will need to file online extension before nov 23 for her.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
J

1) Yes, you can ask for a year.
2) Yes. Ideally she should provide evidence she has funds to support her continued stay in Canada by providing a bank account statement. You should include yours as well.
3) You can combine the funds she has with your savings.

You do not need to file the extension by Nov 23. The extension needs to be submitted before her current status expires. This can be on December 23. The 30 days on the IRCC web site is just guidance, not a rule.
