Your question is pretty valid and good one! not all the phones bought from India work here. You can go online on various service providers in Canada such as Rogers, Bell, Wind etc. Mostly it's wind which doesn't go well with all the phones. Although Lumia being a new launch, so most likely it should go well, but then it's better to be prepared so check their frequencies, of your phone that it supports and the frequencies on which these Service Providers run the network.spencer1 said:Will my Nokia Lumia 525 work in Canada? #boughtinindia
How these companies work... I saw on ther websites they give phones on contract basis ex. S5 for $199 2 yrs contract. But does they cover all call and data charges in 199$. Actually I want to know how all this contract process work.sabby2612 said:Your question is pretty valid and good one! not all the phones bought from India work here. Cheers!
The upfront device cost is $199. You will have to sign a 2 year contract and the monthly bill (depending on the plan you choose) can be between $50-70 or more. You just dnt need to pay the full cost of the device upfront, but you actually pay a lot more than the full price of S5, which may be about $600.akshaydesai92 said:How these companies work... Thanks mead, +1 for you !mead said:there r various plans depending on the city/province ur in but if u want to buy a phone u have 2 options
1) buy a discounted phone witha 2-3 year contract which is like a binding and if u break the contract u have to pay alot more.(2 year contract = 60X24=$1440 + the cost of the phone roughly)
2) buy phone at the regular price and then shop for a cheaper plan which does not require a contract.
if u get ur own phone then u can just get a cheaper plan which can be around $20-25 per month not including data plan.
(25X24=$600)

well there r various plans if u want to get a data plan/internet plan to use whatsapp then plans get costly. So here is a solution u dont take any data/internet plan u get the $25 plan and I am sure where ever u live u will most likely take wireless internet so u can set ur phone to wifi and access whatsapp etc. I am assuming ur phone has wifi capability. in most of the universities wifi is free so as long as ur in university or home u can use whatsapp if ur somewhere u cannot access wifi then u r stuck but still it is better than getting a $60-70 plan plus taxes. so my suggestion bring ur phone..if u later think of buying a better device then so be it but if u feel new device becomes expensive u will have an option to use ur existing phone.parul154 said:Thanks mead, +1 for you !
One ques : I have got Nokia C3, a simple symbian based phone. I am not sure whether the plans in canada, wud allow me to use watsapp/ international free calling etc.. Any suggeations? I was thinking of leaving my phone back at India, and purchasing a new one from there on contract basis.
