Mistake on COPR document, how to correct it

Hi Forum,

So, I landed in Canada last year on 25 Aug 2012, but originally entered Canada on 30 Apr 2009.

I just noticed (after reading the residencequestionnaireDOTwordpressDOTcom) that my COPR document lists my original entry date as 25 Aug 2012 instead of 30 Apr 2009.

Is there a way to have it corrected. I have all my work permits and pay slips from employment proving that I was working and living here since Apr 30, 2009.

Has anyone else have this happen to you. I am just hoping this discrepancy would not affect my number of days calculation or processing of my citizenship application when i apply next year.

Your help on this will be most appreciated.

Thanks so much

Your COPR is correct, because you became PR on August 25th 2012. The day you did you landing. When you use the residency calclulator then you will see that you can start your Citizenship on August 25th 2014. The days that you were here before you became PR will count as half a day.

Many Thanks Rob51.
It's just that I read on the website I mentioned in my previous post (residencequestionnaireDOTwordpressDOTcom/rq-risk-indicators/), that if the COPR does not have the original entry date (in my case 30 Apr 2009) and non-PR time has been used to count the residency days, then it could make the citizenship applicant a candidate to receive the RQ. Don't know if what this website claims is true or not, but I have stamps in my passport that show that I was in Canada from 2009. So I am a bit confused. But I completely agree that in the residency calculator I should be able to enter my time before becoming a PR count.

Hi gbs2012,
There's a lot of ambiguity in many CIC statements and terms which can lead to much confusion. It's possible that "date of original entry" doesn't refer to the first time you came to Canada to live, but rather your entrance as a PR. Also, the risk indicator that you're referring to reads: "C4 – NPR time (non permanent resident time) has been used in the calculation of basic residence and the original entry data used does not appear on the IMM 1000, the Confirmation of Permanent Residence or in CIC records." While I can't say for sure how the CIC interprets this, I would hope that they would refer to other CIC records as well (i.e. student or work visas) and not just the Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

If you're concerned about it though, I would recommend contacting the Call Centre and asking their opinion about the discrepancy between your landing date and your "date of original entry". 1-888-242-2100. Be sure to note the agent's name and the date.

That is incorrect, call cic to rectify it....mine states exactly when i originally entered and when i became pr........ there should be no ambiguity to this. its simple English. I would contact them to fix it. Date of original entry and Date you became a PR are clearly two different things.

After investigating a bit more on this topic, I came across the following link (see below) on CIC website that provides guidance regarding submission of an application/request to amend inaccuracies in certain immigration related documents (in my case the COPR document), hopefully it helps others looking for similar solution

Dont know if this thread is still alive or not but if someone can help...I have a situation here.

My landing paper has date stamp 02-Nov-2016 instead of 02-nov-2017. So how can I get this corrected?

How do I correct an error on my immigration document?
If there is an error on your immigration document:

An amendment will only be made if your document does not match the personal information in your entry passport.

Thanks.

How can an immigration officer be so silly! All those who must have gone through him on that date must be facing this issue I guess!

Not sure, never done it. Perhaps someone else can help answer. I think you maybe able to search for existing threads where people have gone through this process.

I have gone through this process. It took exactly one month to have the correction. In my case the original entry date was wrong as well.
