Mistake in work permit - validity date beyond current contract. PLEASE help!

Hi there,

I am a current work permit holder doing research at Western University. I got my (second) work permit extension a month ago, and, to my surprise, I've just realized that the validity date is February 13, 2017, even though my contract will expire on October 31st, 2016. I am aware this would be a bigger issue is the mistake was the opposite (WP validity coming earlier than contract's expiry). I am absolutely sure that this mistake is the CIC's fault, as the information I provided in the application (in the form and in the letter of offer from the University) is correct, so I do not mention February 2017 anywhere in the application. Therefore, my questions to you are:

1) Are you aware of this situation happening to anyone before?

2) Should I contact the CIC to have it fixed or should I not even bother as the validity goes beyond the contract?

3) I have an international trip scheduled for this Thursday, with reentry to Canada next Monday. Could this mistake cause me any kind of trouble at the Canadian border?

Up to when is your passport's validity? sometimes they based it on your passport validity

Thanks for the reply. The passport is valid until September 11th, 2019, so way beyond the current work permit. Anyway, I guess it makes sense if they make it according to passport validity if the passport expiry date comes earlier than the contract, which is not my case.
