I just sent our application to Mississauga. My most pressing question is, will I hear from CIC that they received it? And if so, by email or mail? And when is it that they give you the information about accessing the app progress online?

No, you will not get a confirmation of receipt from CPC-Mississauga. You won't hear from them until they have finished assessment of the sponsor and rendered a decision. The only way to know that your application was received is to ship is via some method that provides a tracking number.

A sponsorship application is not reviewed until they open the package - and the decision is typically made that same day unless there is a complication. So while you are waiting, your application package is not even opened yet. So it won't be entered into their system until the sponsor's decision is made - then you can access online. Typically you need the sponsor's client ID # and, unless the sponsor is a permanent resident, s/he won't have a client ID # until one is assigned when the application is opened.

I'll be sending our applications via courier in the next few days (overnight express).

How long does it take for CIC to decide if I am eligible to sponsor?

Does the processing time start after the sponsor has been approved?

One last question, does a passport request from the VO usually mean the visa will be granted?

Cheers,
FS

I actually received AOR from Mississauga about a month after my app was received. It's supposed to be a new procedure, as per the agent at cicm. Check out my January spreadsheet...a bunch of us received em. Mine came by email.

I'd just say that some get it and some dont.

But yes the best way to know they have it is by checking your method of delivery for confirmation.

Just to add...

A passport request from the VO does not necessarily mean the visa will be granted. Some VOs (such as Manila) request the passport very early in the process - long before the final decision has been made.

After you get the initial AOR from mississauga do you get another email stating when your file has been transferred.

So this is first stage AOR. After this you will soon receive sponsorship approval. Sadly there is no for sure way to say how you will be notified...some got an email, some snail mail and then others like me, called the call center and had my approval confirmed over the phone (a letter filled a few days later).

Once you are approved your file is automatically sent to buffalo, and if you get second stage AOR you are just as lucky as getting it the dirt time.

I was approved march 27 and still no AOR from buffalo. We k ow its there because our ecas shows medical results received.
