Missed my citizenship oath because I mistook the date on my computer Canlendar

Well... Read the fine print... They clearly say you can't miss it until you have a good excuse. I am sorry but people will be like 'how can you forget about an oath date??!!'. It's like the most important date ever! It's like forgetting about your due date when you are pregnant lol.

I admit that I made a stupid mistake. It is not I forgot it, I was really looking forward to becoming a Canadian citizen. I simply mistook the date. Jun and Jul have the same first 2 letters. It was a dumb mistake. But should I be punished for this dumb mistake by rejecting my application? If so, then it would be too much, and it will hurt someone who pays taxes in Canada and have no intention of leaving Canada. It will HURT a genuine contributing immigrant's heart VERY VERY badly.

I know, but I am still waiting and stressed over this. I think my mistake is not big enough to get rejected or suspended. Do you think my excuse is not acceptable? If you were to handle my case, would you reject it?

I am sorry but as we told you, we don't make the rules. They do. So there is not much we can tell you here and that's unfortunate. That's not because you think it's unfair that they will think the same. You know what I mean? They have to deal with so many applications, I guess that's the easiest way for them to turn down some applicants.

Anyway you don't even know yet but as mentioned, nothing you can do for now. Maybe your MP will? Please let us know how it goes but what's done is done there is nothing else you can do.

Thanks. I contacted my MP already and I got a consent form from my MP. I will fill out the form on Monday and send back to my MP. Will keep you updated.

This is a case where your honesty may hurt you.

If they consider your case abandoned then see if MP can help reopen the case. If they can't then you either take it to court or reapply. Both will take time.

I was supposed to do it on the 10th of June but I went on the 12th of June instead. This is because when I was checking the date on my computer calendar in May, I clicked twice and went to July thinking it was June, and July 10 was a Friday. So I went on the 12th of June, which was a Friday and found out I mistook the date. I hand wrote a letter right away on the same day, and I have not heard from CIC. It has been over 3 months and there are ceremonies almost every day. I wrote a second letter explaining the details why I missed it a few weeks ago and still did not help. I am really worried now for 2 reasons:
1. I really want to vote on 19th of Oct, and I will very likely miss it.
2. I have seen online that someone got rejected because he had a calendar error. His explanation was deemed unacceptable.

I check my mail every day and this is really a torture... Anyone's had the same experience?

Just order your Atip, it will clearly indicate that your explanation has been received and that your file is in process, there is no reason that they will reject your application and in all likelihood reschedule your oath ceremony, as for timing of the Oath ceremony there might be a wait for it but your reason "1. I really want to vote on 19th of Oct, and I will very likely miss it." will seem to them like a cock and bull story , who in their right frame of mind will take this as a reason to fast track your Oath, seriously !

Just order your Atip, it will clearly indicate that your explanation has been received and that your file is in process, there is no reason that they will reject your application and in all likelihood reschedule your oath ceremony, as for timing of the Oath ceremony there might be a wait for it but your reason "1. I said in my second explanation letter that I would really like to vote and I apologized in both letters. I also said I am aware they are not obligated to reschedule me before then but I would really appreciated from the bottom of my heart. I hope the VO can be compassionate...

I would suggest you go to your local Member of Parliament and seek his help.

Precaution - Its good idea to send them copy of latest passport to prove you are indeed in the country and NOT outside.
