Mispelled last name on sponsor's PR card.

Hi everyone!
This is my first time posting here and I'm in desperate need of some guidance.

My partner is sponsoring me via inland common law sponsorship (we're applying for the OWP as well). We noticed today while at the notary that his last name on his PR card is misspelled ("Oliveria" instead of "Oliveira", and it's one of the required documents for the application.

According to CIC it could take us months to have a new card issued since it's now too late for us to ask them to rectify the mistake (they give you 60 days upon receiving the card to let them know they made a mistake and have the card reissued. It's been 2 years. ).
His passport is expired (because of the pandemic it'll take months to have a new one issued as well) and he doesn't have a Canadian driver's license. The only other identification he has is his BC service card.

We are running out of time as my current work permit will expire in 3 months, so ideally we would like to send the application ASAP (we have about 95% of the application completed, so almost ready to be mailed to CIC), but we are now concerned that if we send the application as it is, with his last name on his PR card being misspelled, it might be sent back to us.

I'm wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and was able to find a workaround.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Apply now with a letter of explanation and note that he will be applying for a corrected PR card. Note, he should have other documentation (including for example anything from his original application, COPR or correspondence from IRCC or Canadian government) with the correct spelling. Attach photocopies of whatever seems most authoritative to show that this is just a misspelling.

This is not a guarantee that they will accept as is but it's not that unusual a situation, and if it's a clear typo, should be okay. Possible that they'd just ask for the corrected PR card when available.
