Hello,

I am applying primary school for my 11 year-old son from China. I will accompany my son to Canada for his whole study period.

Can I apply visitor visas for me, my husband, my daughter (born on 2016) to my son's study permit application as Family members?

I'm confused because the note says Family members include only spouse, dependent children or grand-children of the applicant... does that mean, I cannot apply our visitor visas in my son's study permit application?

Please kindly reply, thank you very much in advance!

Has your son received a study permit?
Does your son have a Canadian guardian?

You can visit your son as a visitor. For this, you need to apply for a TRV/visitor visa. Whether or not you are granted a TRV will depend on the assessment made by the visa officer.

Also, you won't be allowed to stay with your son for the entire length of his studies. As a visitor, you are allowed to visit him for short stays, max. up to 6 months if you are allowed by the immigration officer at the port of entry.

You can apply to extend your stay before your authorized stay is over. Sooner or later it would seem like you are violating your visitor privileges and you could be refused an extension and asked to leave.

Your son's study permit does not grant you or your family members any privileges to accompany him. Any/all of you would need to apply for visitor visas/TRVs.

You would be applying as a visiting parent, not as an accompanying parent of an international student

See Bryanna's post above. Only your son who is coming to Canada on a study permit will be able to live in Canada. Everyone else in the family (including yourself) can apply to visit Canada for a short time as tourist - however you cannot live here. You should assume that you will not be able to accompany your son to Canada for his whole study period. This is why you need to find someone to ask as your son's guardian while he is in Canada.
