My friend is getting married back in Pakistan. What is the minimum wage requirement. Can her father be a co-signer to meet minimum wage requirements to sponsor her husband, as she only works at Tim Hortons in the weekend. Or if she will have to start working full time.

Is she studying during the week?

Yes, She is studying full time at bachelor's level in the university and it is her final semester
Then she can update her application via webform when she is working full-time after graduation. The process takes 15+ months typically and with covid likely longer. Pakistan has longer than average processing times.

Can her father be a co-signer with her if she doesnot meet minimum wage requirement.
What is the minimum wage requirement if she has to do it alone.

If she is PR or Canadian citizen (Sponsor) and wants to sponsor her husband who has no dependent: No financial's requirement needed.
The only requirement is: She may not CURRENTLY be on welfare program or be socially assisted.

Only your husband, partner, wife can be a co-signer for PR. Then her father or anyone else can not be a co-signer for PR purposes.

That’s not correct. Although there isn’t an exact income requirement spouses sponsoring must show they can support themselves without government help. We have seen other women working part-time been asked to provide more financial proof. It would be much better if she can show that she is working full-time especially since she is only working part-time on the weekend and doesn’t seem to have had a longterm full-time job. If she has savings or her spouse has savings that can also be included. Plans for employment for the husband once he arrives in Canada and her career plans can be included. Last option would be for her family to show that they have the extra finances to support the couple if necessary. Family financial support can be included but that doesn’t actually prevent a couple from applying for welfare so it is always best to show that the spouse in Canada has been working full-time because it can take a while for the non-Canadian spouse to get employed. Once she graduates and starts working full-time she should update the file so there aren’t any concerns. Sponsorship is likely to take at least a year and a half so she has plenty of time to get employed.

It seems like you explain or interpret what the rules should be; I say what the rules are since they are straight forward.

No financial requirements if you sponsor your wife, husband, common law partner who has no dependents.
The only thing is: No welfare or social benefits except for disability.
-------------------------------
Income requirement:
In most cases, there isn’t an income requirement to sponsor your spouse or partner or dependent child. You only need to show that you have enough money to meet the income requirements if:

  • you’re sponsoring a dependent child that has 1 or more dependent children of their own, or
  • you’re sponsoring a spouse or partner that has a dependent child, and their dependent child has 1 or more children of their own.

You do actually prove that you have the funds to support yourselves because unfortunately many would get off of welfare, apply to sponsor their spouse and then reapply when their spouse arrives. You must show a plan of how you will support yourselves without needing government assistance. Been through enough applications and seen applications returned for more proof of finances when just a spouse is involved. The government isn’t asking you to show 15K in your savings account although it would be helpful. The government is looking for you to prove that because you have been working and/or have enough savings and/or plans for the foreign spouse to get employed when coming to Canada. Some may have already been offered a job by friends or family for when they arrive.
