Minimum stay required after PR Visa stamping

Hi - I have received passport request (PPR) for PR Visa stamping.
My understanding - after I get my passport stamped with PR Visa, I have to land in Canada with in 1 year of my medicals. Is it mandatory and can it be extended with a fees or appeal?
If no, minimum how long I have to stay during this visit with in 1 year. I believe this is required to get the 'PR Status' at the entry port of Canada. Can I fly to Canada, get my passport and PR visa validated and return (say in a week or two) so that I can come back later with in next 5 years to stay in Canada a minimum of 2 years as stipulated in CIC guideline.
In next 1 year, even if I can go to Canada for a short visit (couple of weeks), I can not stay for 2 years to keep my PR valid. Please get me a proper solution as I want to retain my PR status but can relocate only after couple of years of time line.

It is mandatory that you land in Canada before the expiry of your visa. There are no extensions or appeals granted. If you fail to land in time, you must start the application process again from scratch.

You can leave immediately after landing.

To maintain your PR status, you must live in Canada for two out of every five rolling years.

For how long is PR visa valid? As posted by CA_CEC, is it valid from the day of Medicals?

As I am just in the process, I am not sure of the actual. But as much I could study on CIC website and other forums, it is said that whenever you send your passport for getting it stamped, normally the visa you get remains valid till 1 year from the date of your medicals done.

:) Thanks scylla for the information - just to be doubly sure - you mean to say that if I fly in Canada, get my passport and PR visa validated at airport, go out and come back after few hours to catch the next return flight - my PR status would be secured for next 5 years provided I stay in Canada for 2 years during these 5 years - please confirm.

From Date of the medical done - so in your case, you have done your Medicals. So can you provide the timelines so that it will be helpful to know the number of net months you will have to land in Canada.

Another suggestion, why don't you try with the Canadian embassy in India, because they can stamp the visa and it will be quicker rather than sending the passport all the way to Canada.

Thnx Praveen - my time line of activities are given below. It would be very helpful if you clarify that to keep my PR validity for next 5 years - if I travel to Canada get my PR Visa checked at airport and come back by a return flight - is there a minimum duration that I need to spend for this process. Also, I am the primary applicant with my dependent spouse and 2 kids - do they also need to travel or if I only get my PR validated with in next 1 year that would be enough for whole family?

I submitted the application by end of Aug'12 from Canada and left the country. I received first e-mail from CIC to acknowledge my application in around Sep'13. Next I got e-mail from CIC for RPRF and Biodata in June'13. I paid RPRF online and sent the biodata and receipt. I got request for Medicals in July'13. By end of July, I completed that and sent them e-Medical forms (it actually gets reported by medical agency itself). Few days back, I received PPR (passport request) from CIC.

Hey CA- CEC,

congratulations on your PPR and completing the process. I noticed you mentioned leaving canada after applying, are you back in canada now for passport stamping ? are you sending your pp for stamping from abroad?

I am an overseas CEC applicant from AUG 2012, i recently did medicals and paid rprf so waiting for ppr but there is lot of confusion about sending passport for stamping.

Can you pls share how are you getting stamped.

Thanks,

DJ

Hey,
You can definitely leave Canada taking the next flight...but the concerns will be that you need to have your PR card in order for you to return to Canada which is usually taking around 67 days to be mailed out after your landing date...if for some reason you don't get the PR and need to check into a Government office in Canada then it will be a problem but if your friends or family receives the card and send it back to you in India then you are safe....

Yes, all of your accompanying family members who will be with you at the time of your landing has to be there at least 2years to keep their status validated...If they have honored the PR but decided not to accompany you while you are landing than there status will be cancelled...

For the expiry of entry visa question....you will see that the visa stamped in your passport will have an expiry date...mine was given only for 3months and it cannot be extended or appealed...the duration varies from case to case...hope this info will help...Good Luck

It seems people who are in Canada will have the most benefits rather than people outside Canada. 3 months visa is very short duration to sort out things if you are not in Canada. I had come across people in this forum who had received visa validity if 6 months to 1 year.

Thanks Arhaan - u clarified a part of my query. As u indicated, I will work with my friends to get my PR card and he can post the same to me to India. My another point was as I get my passport stamped with entry visa after PPR (as u received it for 3 months), is it okay for me to go alone to get PR validation and return immediately or do all the family member need to accompany? Can I take all my family members' passport and go alone for the first entry? Plz clarify. I am a bit worried on the expiry of entry visa - I thought by default it is for 1 year. It would be nice if you can give steps after PPR and during this process.

I understand ur pt that to keep PR status during next 5 yrs we all should land together and stay in Canada for 2 yrs.
