Hi ,

My common law partner is a Canadian resident and a student. I have a full time job in the NOC category C. He doesn't have the annual salary requirements that you need to meet the criteria to sponsor someone but I make $23000 annually. Is he able to sponsor me in this case?

Thank you

Hi there. I'm not sure where or what you were reading, but there is no minimum salary requirement to sponsor a spouse or common law partner.

But it says you have to be eligible to provide them with basic stuff like food shelter clothes etc. So I am just wondering if he'd have to show a certain annual income.

There is no minimum income requirement. You guys need to be able to show that you can support yourselves in Canada without welfare. This can be through any combination of savings, your income, his income, income potential, family assistance etc.

No need to show income, however i did show i didnt owe any back taxes.
While there is no minimum income requirement, the family does need to show how they will support themselves.

I did not have to show that for my husband sponsorship. We were approved 2 months ago.

Were you employed? Did you submit an Option C/NOA?
I was employed yes but that was not required of me to show income for, which i didnt. All they asked is if i owed any taxes for previous income tax years. As long as you arent on social assistance thats basically all they cared to know.

My husband got PR which will allow him to work and have an income.
The only time i ever saw immigration ask for the income is for visitor visas.

You were required to declare your income in the app. Couples can and have been refused when IRCC believed that theh couldn't support themselves without welfare, so being on welfare is not all that they care about.

Maybe but they never asked me for proof, like bank deposit or paystubs.

They often don't. However, had you put an income of 0 and included nothing else, they would have asked for further financial proofs.
