Hi all,
Could you please help explain me on the following question?
When I- with a student visa - landed to Canada, will the officer ask for the cash amount I have? What if I only have 1000-2000 CAD with me? Will they refuse my entry? I have paid for my first semester already.
I appreciate your help!

Hello serena,

You will need to show them 1000CA$ per month for your survival if you fail they may refrain you from entering canada.
Best of luck.

Regards,
Khaja.

Thanks for your reply!
I'm upset because that will result in too many cash that I have to bring with me when landing. My program lasts for 2 years, so I have to have $24,000 ?

You need to show a proof of financial capacity (not necessarily hard cash!). If you end up at POE with CAD 10,000 or more, you will have to declare it separately with Customs Canada.

Hello,

Why dont you open a student account and put in some cash in that account since you cant take more than 10k with you if you do so then you have to go through customs.

Warm regards,
Khaja.

You CAN bring more than 10K, you just need to declare it on the form.

You can go to a bank for a traveller's cheque from 1000-2000 then you can take 500-1000 cash in hand in addition to your bank statement. Will like to know your experience at the Point of Entry so do send me a message when you land

In my experience, the CBSA agent didn't even ask me how much I had. He just looked if I paid for my tuition already and asked me a few questions about where I would study etc.
Having CAD 2000 on hand should be okay. You can also open a Canadian bank account and put the rest of your money in there as well. Scotiabank, I think, offers a service where you can open an account right away even before you arrived in Canada.
Good luck!
