I know that the program says that you need 3900 hours or 24 months of full time employment to apply for the PR. Is 30 hours a week for 2 years considered full time? I want to hire someone for 30 hours a week, but they are worried it's not enough to fufill the 24 months full time. I think that 30 hours a week is the minimum hours allowed for the program?

Anyone know? Can a live-in caregiver consider 30 hours a week as full time for the option of applying for PR for full-time work for 24 months?

No, it is not considered full time. For 2 years you require 3900 hours, 30 hours per week is only 3120 Hours.

Yes, but the CIC website says Option 1 is 24 months of full-time employment or Option 2- 3900 hours ( within 22 months at minimum). So would 30 hrs for 24 months be full-time?

No - 30 hrs for 24 months is not full time.

Check the labour standards for full time hours in your province. I don't think it is 30 hours per week though.

hi cindy2010. did you get response from the service canada? i dont think any LIC would like to work for only 30h/week. is not enough to support oneself more so if she/he have family backhome to support.

Here is the link with the 30 hours requirement. This is ontario, not sure about other provinces...

The job must be full-time to ensure live-in caregivers can financially support themselves while in Canada. In some provinces and territorries ("provinces") full-time work is defined in provincial labour standards legislation. Where provincial labour standards do not specify full-time work, full-time work should be defined as 30 hours per week or more for the purpose of the Live-in Caregiver Program.

Well no worries then, your caregiver will be able to apply for PR after the required 24 months of work is finished.

Here's the answer for LCP minimum hours required...

Description

The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) allows families to hire a foreign live-in caregiver, often called a nanny, when Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not available.

Under the LCP, foreign live-in caregivers must:
•provide care on a full-time basis (minimum 30 hours per week) to: ◦children, under 18 years of age
◦elderly persons, 65 years of age or over, or
◦persons with disabilities

•live and work without supervision in the private household where the care is being provided; and
•meet the requirements set by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC)/Service Canada for the LCP.

Employers must meet all the Program Requirements, the Wages, Working Conditions and Occupation and the Advertisement requirements.

Employers who wish to hire a housekeeper or a caregiver that resides outside the household must apply under the Stream for Lower-skilled Occupations.
