Am New to This Forum , I need Feedback from people Who Already in canada

Subject : Confused To Decide To Migrate or Stay in India

Am 38 Yrs Old , Already well Settled in India In Senior management Role With Annual Income After Tax : 60000 CAD / Annum

I Have a Daughter ( 9 Yrs ) in Grade 4 , My Spouse Is Teacher in Elementary School

Last 3 Years this Thought of Migrating to Canada in my Mind , SO Started Collecting Information , But i Couldnt Get The Answers much Clearly Of Pay and package in Long Term

My Questions :

1. On an Average To Earn around 100000 CAd / Annum , How Long it Will Take for Person With 18 Yrs Exp In India
2. My Priority was My daughter's Education < Is The Canada Public Schools Provide Adequate Education
3. Is Migrating To canada for above reasons is really a Illusion or a Reality

1. Impossible to answer this question. It could happen in the first week you arrive to Canada, it could take month or years, or it may never happen.

I am in a similar situation as you, although my age and experience, both are lesser and we don't have any children as yet.

I would like to answer your question,in line with my thought process, or atleast on the basis of what my wife & I have realized till now.

What I understand that, for getting a job in Canada, the first and foremost thing is the ''local experience'' which none of us have. So, don't expect to start off your career at a similar level as in India. While you decide to move to Canada and start living there, you have to bring down your expectations in terms of earning high salaries that justify your long experience back home. Also, initially your wife may find it a little easier to settle and land a job ,considering her kind of experience and field of work.

But,after the initial 2/3 years, things start getting settled and you never know when and how you may land a job with your desired profile and salary. Once that is done,everything falls in place.

So,the crux of the story is that initial few years might be bit tough but the future may look bright after the initial struggle.

My wife and I, have received PR and now in the process of visiting Canada for a short landing. the coming years would be crucial for us,as we would have to take some tough decisions regarding our life. It's upto us to decide whether we want to leave the already settled and content life in our home country or start a new life in Canada (of which the initial years might be difficult but beautiful after that) or just let the opportunity go & never look back at it!

not entirely true.. In my profession, international experience is highly sought after and I got a full time job in 2 weeks. It really depends on what your employer is looking for.

In my opinion it really depends on your skill set and the type of role you've done, are doing and would like to do.

E.g. if your experience is heavily focused on your local market and not transferable then yes, you will find it hard to find a role.

A move to Canada is not for some and I feel the people who struggle the most are the ones who haven't done enough research, haven't been to Canada before and in reality aren't that great at what they do.

To be up front, a lot of people rely on their resumes to get them a job and forget that they actually need to sell themselves and their skill set.

If you want to provide same quality of living for your family you need to earning atleast 200k CAD in Canada. Earning 100k wont be even close, so dont take that as benchmark. As you go for more senior level positions quality of your experience, quality of your credentials(MBA recognized schools, certifications) they become more and more relevant. Not to mention job hunting cycles are much longer and target positions much lesser.

I'd be interested to see the amount of roles say in Vancouver paying a base salary of CAD 200k, giving that all organisations are a pyramid, even with experience, MBA etc there's are not an infinite amount of senior positions available. Unless someone already has a track record with a multinational and is transferred internally, it's very unlikely that someone will be put into a senior role with no track record.

It also begs the question of how do the majority of the population survive on less than CAD 200k?

agreed, from all the reports I've read and advice I have sought, it is possible to live on far less than CAD 200k and still have a reasonable lifestyle

Kind of work competition and politics we have in India is un parallel, every second person is a MBA or an engineer or both... i am sure that not the case in canada.. with a population of only 36 mil, the number of highly qualified ppl are far far much lesser... when we talk about local Canadian experience been given preference, yes that's true but it dependent on which industry you are in ... if you are from MNC and then move to canada that would always help and i know ppl who have moved to canada with non canadian experience and within 6 months have got a decent job and with 18 mts a good job ....

Even in India, there are no easy jobs, so many Mba & engineers are doing jobs way below their education and qualification and all the good jobs are through networking or word of mouth, which is also the case in canada .....

100% agree with this, you have to put yourself in the position to take an opportunity as well. I am not from India but work very closely with people from there and have heard the same.

Just having the MBA doesn't help anymore in any market - it's the experience that goes with it and where it is from.

Friends I am an MBA from India very well versed with finding jobs etc.But Canada is altogether different country definitely i need to put extra effort to find job.Appearing for IELTS soon.
