Looks like CIC finally posted something about the strike on their website.
This was in the processing times page:

Alert – Strike Action

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas.

Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages.

Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.

Contingency plans are already in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service. Priority will be placed on urgent humanitarian applications.

CIC continues to closely monitor the situation.

Is this strike affecting ALL visa offices or just certain ones?

to the best of my underestanding, these strikes are rotational, so that means certain embassies (or consulates or missions, visa offices, etc.) go on strike for a certain period of time, then they resume operations and another set of them go on strike. i think when you're doing labour negotiations this is like a pre-emptive measure to bring the gov't back to the negotiating table before they play their final card, which would be a complete shut down of all foreign services... although i find that extremely unlikley to happen.

i guess the point now would be trying to find the schedule of the rotational strikes.

Update: Wednesday, June 12, 2013
In addition to the job actions already mentioned above, all Foreign Service immigration officers in Mexico City began withholding services on Tuesday, June 11.

This is not looking good.

The only good thing, is now CIC has put it on the website and a lot more news sites are reporting on it. So hopefully this puts a lot more pressure on them to approve a new contract and end the strike asap.
I personally think the more they put the issue into the public, the better/faster solution they will get.

unfortunately, this is what it looks like

Has your MP contacted you back yet ?

maybe try getting your husband to call the MP's office to confirm they received his email and that they are going to look into your file.

Well they should consider this when it comes to the validity of some documents like the medicals, of course their not going to do it. You are right they charging money for this and our spouses pay their taxes. The Canadian government doesn't care at all if there are people that spend time away from their beloved ones. The whole process shouldn't be that complicated, and now the same government it's make it worse and worse. :'( :-\

this is what prompeted me to post that thing about the police certificates and the (very unkind) response i got from CIC.

me: "hey... so you guys are on strike. i guess that means i get an extension for my police certificate right? i mean YOUR instructions say that i need to ask YOUR embassy to get them for me and they're definitely not going to be ready in the 60 days that you gave me"

them:"go figure out how to get them yourself. if the certificates are not ready on time it's your fault" (<-- with much nicer words but that was the essential message)

i guess the worst thing is to be both frustrated and powerless...

Ugh! Dont know what to think because i emailed mexico city last week and yestrday i got a reply from them! Which has been the fastest ever to get a response. Dont know wether or not to believe this link above. An i contacted my mp last week and he said as far as he was concerned everything was ok in mexico and if he finds out otherwise that he would call me and still no call :) ( and hes really good with calling back). God i hope this doesnt mess up our applications. Everyone cross your fingers !
