Nope. Out of pure frustration, we went ahead with the meds on our own after we received the email about being in queue for review. Our thinking at the time was that a decision could be pending near the last noted GCMS due date. But here we still are. In any case, at least the meds and FBI are good to go.

so if i am reading this correctly.

when we filed our application we were still in canada. so my spouse got mi suegra to take a set of his prints(that we had done in canada) and get his informes de datos registrales..(although i swear it was called informes de no penales or something like that and it was saying he had no criminalities in any states in mexico)

so we got this police check and sent it in with our application in jan.
than he came back to mexico in april.

does this mean they will request another police check now that he is back in mexico.... or will the first one be fine seeing as we were living out of the country when he filed the application.

WHen my husband did his medicals, the doctor filled in MY information (sponsor) in the principal applicant section, which I KNEW was wrong (I wasn't there at the time, but I called him and he insisted that this was the proper way of filling it out). Siiiiigh I guess we will never know until they contact us!!!

The documentation on our file appears to now be all up to date. We thankfully took the initiative to update the FBI and medicals on our own months ago, so that's done and reflected on our GCMS notes. I wonder though if a new PGR will be requested. Has anyone heard of this happening in cases with longer timelines? I suppose the good news is that if we are in fact asked for it, it won't take very long to obtain it. Interesting how one's perspective changes with respect to what constitutes a "long time" after almost two years on the queue .... !

I don't know about the PGR but I sure hope you get the PPR before the two year point! You should.

Take a look at the new police certificate instructions on the CIC website. They are now suggesting you reach out to the Mexican VO if you live abroad for the SSP too so you may be able to save yourself the hassle. They must have finally realized the Mexican Embassies aren't doing them as they thought they would.

Thanks, I sent an e-mail with my UCI number and Case number, with a short explanation of our situation to the Mexican VO asking for directions if we need the SSP. I guess we'll see if they answer and what directions they give us if they do answer. Once again, thanks for the direction OhCanadiana, Cheers.

Hi, I am a Canadian who is in the process of completing all the documents for the permanent residency application. My husband is a Mexican citizen and resides in Mexico. I currently reside in Canada and have done so all my life. After submitting our application I hope to go to Mexico for 6 months. Doing so may require me to quit my job in Canada if a leave of absence is not approved. Would leaving Canada for six months impact my application? Should I send a letter with the application explaining my intent?

It might be best to move after you get approved as a sponsor. Then you can send the visa office an email explaining.

If you are a citizen you can apply to sponsor your spouse while you are outside of Canada, you would then just have to show your intent to return to Canada. Requiring your spouse has no minimum income requirements, but you do need to show the government of how you will be able to support you and your spouse.

mrscruz: As a Canadian citizen(not just a resident) you are only required to be in Canada for 4 months per year to maintain residency as long as you don't declare residency in another country. I know this because that's what I do and have done considerable research to maintain my residency and ensure I'm still legally allowed to work in Canada at Canadian tax rates. I believe most provinces require 6 months of actually being in the country to maintain medical coverage. I don't use my medical coverage while I'm outside of the country and would only do so in a life threatening emergency. Pay your Canadian taxes, keep an address, keep your drivers license and bank accounts in Canada. You are Canadian and free to travel if you choose. Talk to some "Snowbirds". Bringing a spouse to Canada is not dependent on a current job but on your commitment to insure the person(s) you bring to Canada will not be dependent on the Canadian public for assistance. That will be your responsibility and they will make you accountable in your future if you can't take care of them. Enjoy your time with your spouse if that's the direction you choose. I'm glad I'm with my spouse while I'm waiting. Thank God I have the type of career that allows me this option.

You can go now and just explain. Or submit your paperwork before you leave and then email someone which probably won't get matched up with your file but you'll have proof you notified. I just think it might make sponsorship smoother. But I was outside of Canada when I applied and I was approved no problems and I was also not working. However I did show a letter of offer of employment in Canada.

Also if I understand correctly, even if I quit my job, this does not mean my application will be refused because I just have to commit to proving for my husband.

I think if you are unemployed they might do additional checks because there are rules about sponsors and principal applicant's going on "welfare". That is why I think you should quit your job after you submit your paperwork. I would not want to put unemployed on the sponsors side if it is avoidable.

Thanks Canadiangirl. At this point I am still employed and I am pursuing a leave of absence with my employer that would ensure me my same job upon my return. If the leave of absence is not approved I may have towing my job. I will file all the paper work first before I make a decision if I have to quit my job or not. Also my husband and I still need to determine if this is a financially feasible option. Thanks for your help!!
