Yes I hope it means we have nice weather for winter. We saw lots of help wanted signs while we were in Calgary. :)

yeah my dad said last winter was very mild so hopefully again this winter. lol.
oh really thats good!.
im trying to get him in with an oil company doing customs, for buying and selling oil overseas.
my whole family is in the oilfield and has a little pull here and there. so once we get there at least they will be able to direct him to where he should go to find a job and help him out a bit :D
he just needs to take a couple more courses for dangerous goods and stuff.

but i think calgary will be a better fit economically for us :D

maybe well come visit u guys in fort mac one day! haha

Yes the oil companys are the best option for sure. Lots of new projects starting up as well in the next few years. I'm hoping Luis will be able to start working for an oil company soon as well, but it will be more trades related. We'll get there eventually. He'll need to take some courses as well, or go full in to a trade.

Yes I'm sure we could meet up at one end or the other of the province :)

After spending 45min at DHL the SSP and the waybill are on their way to the embassy. :D

Good job!

We are going to have a flood of PPRs soon.

I'm going to New York next week for the day. I have money in my US bank that I need to get to Canada. Should I just bring US cash across the border? Do I have to declare it? I did a wire before moving and the fee was $40 and I didn't get a good rate. (RBC)

I don't believe you have to declare it. They just want to know you have less than $10,000.. :) You can open a US bank acct in Canada.. but I don't think you can wire it right in to your US acct, without it getting converted. Maybe ask the bank? I would probably get Travellers Cks from your US bank for the balance, and bring them to Canada and deposit in to your US account, and transfer when the exchange is more favourable. And travellers cks are usually free from your bank, if not should only be a small fee.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. Travellers cheques are probably the safest and easiest way to bring in your money :)

I know that a couple of spouses on here are considering going in to trades (my spouse included). I know this article applies more to Alberta, but it shows which trades are really in demand. We are considering heavy equipment operator or electrician, but after looking at this list, may consider millwright as well. :)

TSB thanks for the link!! I'm going to show my spouse it.

Also guess what I just found out, because of such a high rise in latin families immigrating to alberta or calgary specifically..
Calgary has a Spanish-immersion school!!
Looks like french just might be getting pushed to the side :P

You know what.. has anyone else noticed Spanish poping up in places they haven't seen before?? I can't think of specific things.. but I know I've seen products with English, French, and Spanish on them!! It just seems all of the sudden?? That's very cool about the school! It's great that Spanish is becoming more popular!

If you have 10k or more in monetary instruments when you cross the border, you need to fill out a form declaring the funds. AFAIK, you can wire directly to US dollar accounts in Canadian bank accounts (at least at the banks I'm familiar with) and then wait for a good moment to do the conversion to CDN (it can be worth calling the bank if it's a larger amount and they may give you a preferred rate). That way you can save signing all those traveler's cheques.

My cousin is a millwright and he loves it.. he is trying to get my spouse to go into it as well, haha. We will see what happens!
