Hello All
Congratulations Lena1984 on your Husbands Visa. Our hearts go out to you because a lot of us understand the anxiety you went thru.
This is proof that there is some PR activity at the Mexican Embassy.
I had asked the speak to a Canadian but the Mexican employee told me it's a conflict of interest since they're the ones that approve or deny the applications.
Its not a conflict of interest, Its a lack of accountability. If you have been waiting a year or your email status inquiries go answered for months , or the attendant refuses or cannot give you an approx schedule (where you are in the que) you should demand to speak to the official in charge of your file (probably a Canadian). They should be able to tell you what the delays or problems are. The process should be transparent. You should not have to drag this information out of the attendant.
Unfortunately communication between CIC and is one way. They only communicate when they need something or after a month of waiting send you a boiler plate email with irrelevant links.
As for the PAFSO there work to rule delay tactics has directly affected family class applications. They should be disciplined.
The bottom line is this
Strike or no strike there is no reason for a Canadian to wait one year or more to bring there spouse to Canada. As CIC starts amalgamating Embassies throughout Latin America this wait time will only increase. Temp Visas will remain largely unaffected.
I was actually wondering, if I request to speak to the Canadian ambassador, wouldn't I have the right to do so as a Canadian citizen?
In theory maybe, in fact here in Mexico a direct interview with the ambassador concerning matters of immigration is impossible. On two occasions I visited the Canadian Consul (near the Museum of Anthropology) to seek an audience with the Ambassador or her rep. On the first the occasion Mexicans guards let me thru only after insisting I talk to someone inside. I meet a Mexican National behind a glass who refused to entertain my complaint because it concerns immigration issues.
On the second occasion the Guards simply refused to let me in because my inquiry was concerning immigration. The Consul deals largely with Canadians in trouble (lost passports etc) and other non immigration issues.
I am disillusioned. If a Canadian shows up at the consul gates he should have the right to speak to a fellow Canadian inside, for whatever reason, and not be told to go away by Mexican guards!
I know most of you want this hell to be over so you can get on with your lives. However if nothing is done the spousal processing times will increase well beyond the posted periods(I think its 13 months for the Mexico VO last time I looked) .
My wife and I protested in front of the Embassy on Sept 12. I think we got the intention of some of the inside office workers.
We will be planning another shortly
This thread should be for general issues so I will post the details on another thread.
Thanks Mark Kar
