Is that true? We are not supposed to wait for a letter from CIC requesting the police certificate when we are outside of Mexico? Should we wait at least to get the AOR? I got accepted as a sponsor on February 22. No news yet...

In my situation .. our visa office is in Ottawa and my husband is in the USA so according to the CIC website if you reside outside Mexico you can request for mexican police certificates basically as soon as you have your file number. It doesn't say anything about a letter of request on the instructions from the cic website so that is why I was a bit confused.

Hi i´m sponsoring my husband who lives in Guatemala and I would like to get in touch with other members from Guatemala or Central America to compare timelines, etc. Thus far my timeline is as follows:

AOR from mexico: October 25, 2012

My status on ecas changed to In Process in January of this year.

If you wait, the VO handling the file will eventually send you the request for the police certificate with instructions. You can gain some time (i.e., speed things up), though, if you mail the requirements to the Embassy of Canada in Mexico once you have a file number

Ours changed to in process about a week after they embassy received our police certifictes.
But i think its different for everyone. There doesnt seem to be any consistency

The wedding is more relevant for relationships that are much shorter since there's limited other evidence. Twelve years together has a lot of different proof you can use so I wouldn't worry about the small wedding unless there's something else tied to it that you think would make a stranger go 'hmmm...this is weird...what's the logic in this...is it a spousal-like relationship or more like a frienship/acquantance?' when they see the entirety of your relationship evidence.

Thanks, OhCanadiana. I guess ours isn't a very typical relationship and may raise some questions. I think it's best for us to prepare for a possible interview. The PGR certificate was received last week by the embassy. Still wondering when the best time to request our notes is. Do they usually explain why they request an interview?

This process works sooo slow.

hey Dazz13, that's great, so you'll be reunited with your family fairly soon! My wife doesn't plan to land until mid July; as you may imagine there's a lot of stuff to get sorted out with her belongings and such.

Anyways, I need to ask if anybody in this thread has experience with delivering their passport in person at the Immigration counter in Mexico City? can a relative or friend do the delivery of the passport in person or is it mandatory for the applicant to do that himself?

I ask because we're having some issues with shipping my wife's and kid's passports by courier. Anyone who did this from Central America care to share their experience will be appreciated.

Hi Lena my application was received at CIC-M on February 12, 2012, but was misplaced for a few months so I was not approved as a sponsor until August 15, 2012. Thereafter the application was sent to the Mexico VO and currenty I am just waiting to hear from them.

smontenegro, if we go by our timeline, you shouldn't be too far off from getting PPR. Our app was approved by Mississauga back in October, the VO sent AOR on December 4, 2012, e-Cas changed to "In Process" on January 17, 2013, they sent PPR the next day but my wife did not received it so they called last Tuesday asking her to send her passport in. So if your case is none too complex you should definitely be getting a passport request in the next days.
