Thanks! The letter also says that the purpose is for temporary residency.. is that normal? even though he's applying for PR?
What letter?

(I wouldn't worry too much because a background check is a background check so he should proceed).

ETA: If he has a chance today, have him pay the fees at a bank so he doesn't need to worry about it in Mexico City. And, make sure he takes a recent utility bill (comprobante de domicilio) and birth certificate ... the requirements are at http://www.pgr.gob.mx/Servicios/Constancia/antecedentes%20registrales.asp

The letter you receive from the embassy to get the PGR. That's what I figured.. it would be the same check. It's odd that they put that on the letter though.

Good - less worrisome than a typo on the cover letter to you :)

BTW, I added a suggestion to my last post.

That's a good idea. I forgot you have to pay things at a bank. He's going for his photos today.

o okay!!

Are you anywhere near mexico city?
if you are, i would suggest you go and get your SSP certificate and send it in, this may cut down the time of your process, also consider sending a prepaid waybill to canadian embassy in mexico city, this may also speed up the process, because to get the other police certificate PGR you need a letter from the embassy, which they usually send to you close to the end but it could take 30 days for you to receive it, but if you send them a prepaid waybill you may get the PGR request letter much faster... just some thoughts, most of us have been doing that recently.

:D
Thanks for the advise LisaP. From what I read the SSP can only be done in Mexico City, am I right? and once the PGR letter arrives that can be done in any state office. Correct? This can be so confusing!!

My understanding is that he's going in person to the PGR in Mexico City on Monday morning. Hence, the requirement for fotos tamaño filial. ;)

The requirement hasn't changed in years (thank goodness for little things).

Do you remember when did it change from "In process" to "Decision made"?
Ours changed from "In Process" to Decision Made 2 days after issuing the visa.

Yes - the SSP can only be done in Mexico City by the applicant or a direct family member (parent, sibling, and perhaps blood aunt/uncle that shares both last names with one of the parents). It's very fast to get and you get it same day.

The PGR one you can do in many PGR state offices (they have been rolling it out this year to the various states) once you get the request letter from the Embassy if the applicant is living in Mexico. If the applicant lives abroad, you can get it through the Canadian Embassy in Mexico (but it takes 60-90 days for them to get it from the PGR and process it at the Embassy instead of the 10 days if you do it yourself).

Well, it's official, hubby landed yesterday!!! We are so happy. Everything went very smoothly. We crossed the border, showed our passports and the immigration agent directed us to go to the immigration building just beyond the border crossing. We went inside and had to take a number. We waited for about 45 minutes to be seen by an immigration officer. The officer was extremely friendly. He asked which items we were bringing into the country, if my hubby had any criminal offences and where he intended to live in Canada. It was as simple as that; not even a slight glitch. It took about 20 minutes to process the paperwork and we were finished! I cannot express how happy and how grateful to the Canadian government that we are. They have allowed us to start our lives anew together in this great country! My hubby feels especially thankful and relieved that he no longer has to live in the shadows. He can work hard to contribute to Canadian society.
