I wonder if we can track our waybill... I don't remember her giving us a number for it. All she gave us was the number for the package we sent them, but no number for the waybill we included inside.

Congratulations!!! that is awesome!

Edgar.. i have a question maybe you will know the answer. or someone else might know too.

to receive your citizenship you need i think 3 years living in canada legally..

but they said that if you are in canada before PR, everyday you were here under status you can use as .5 of a day towards citizenship...

can time as a refugee with a valid work permit be used towards citizenship or not? seeing as you did have status and a valid work permit... but the refugee stuff is always different, so does anyone know if this time can be used towards gaining citizenship after the PR is issued?/

thanks!

My husband and i have just arrived in Canada. He is here on a tourist visa and we will be applying for his permanent residency hopefully in this week.. still going through paperwork.
Since we are here, we have decided the best option for us is to apply inland, even if it takes longer. He has just a single entry visa anyways.

A few questions i need help clarifying...

1. Generally how long does it take to get permanent residency when applying from inside Canada?
2. Does it make a difference if Im canadian or if we have been married for 5 years?
3. I dont need to put our son's information on any forms if he is canadian right? All the papers would either be for me (sponsorship) or for my husband (application) Is this correct?

4. On one form i have read so far, it asks for the visa office...What does this mean? How do i know what office it should be sent to?? Where to find out more on this?

5. Also my husband wants to apply for a open work permit. Does anyone know how long those usually take to arrive?? Is it ok to send that with his resident application?

6. And do most cases involving Mexicans require a interview?? I am really hoping that it will be less than a year to get his residency and that he doesnt need a interview. All this waiting and confusion on the application is stressful!

Please, anyone for advice or knowledge on doing applications for Mexico, help me out!

Hi welcome!,

1) inland is takes about 11 months for step 1, and 8 for step too, although this is just an average and some are done much faster.
2)im not sure what you mean, does it make a difference for what?
4) the visa office you would put is veggerville as you are applying inland that is the office that processes inland applications.
5)you can send it in with the residency application, but he will not be allowed to have the work permit untill step 1 is approved,
6) i wouldnt say most cases, many go through without an interview, but it all depends on how strong your evidence is, if its very strong and you have plenty of it, an interview shouldnt be necessary.
:)

Hi and welcome to the forum! I'll try to answer the questions that you have.

1. It all depends on the case, my friend has been going through the process and it's been a little over two years, she applied inland, right now CIC says 11 months for initial approval AIP, and another 8 months to process the background checks etc
2. It doesn't make a difference when it comes to processing times how long you've been married, however, it does help in maybe not getting an interview plus you have a son, more evidence etc.
3. If your son is Canadian then no
4. The visa office is Vegreville, where you would send your inland application
5.You can send the open work permit with the application, he will not get it until AIP approval though
6. It all depends on the case, if you provide a lot of proof on your relationship, like I mentioned above 5 years and a son, I'm thinking they wouldn't call you for one

good luck!!

also have you considered staying in canada but applying outland if you dont want to wait over 1 year for the PR.

applying outland is generally much faster, right now step 1 is 3 months and step 2 is average 6-8 months,

the only thing you need to think about is if in the slight chance he is asked for an interview he needs to return to mexico city for the interview, also once his visitor visa runs up he will have to ask for an extension to keep his status, this may or may not be granted.

its up to you, but just thought i would throw that in, in case you are interested,

:)

Sorry for taking so long to reply. CFE was around my neighbourhood doing some maintenance so I was without electricity until now.

Any time he has spent in Canada will count, even as a refugee, hoewever they only count 4 years from when you mailed out your citizenship application, for example in my case I spent almost two years in Canada, but none of that will count because by the time I apply for citizenship it will be only the last four years.

Example:

Your hubby lands in Canada on January 1st 2013, assuming he never leaves to Mexico or the USA for even a day he has to wait 1065 days, so January 1st 2016 is when he could apply, you could apply earlier if he was in Canada before Jan 1st 2013, but since he's been in Mexico for that past year, it doesn't really count. Makes sense?

I think so..
okay so he applied for refugee in may 2009 i believe, and had refugee status for almost 2 years before being denied, so say he does land back in canada on january 1,2013.
would any of the time between may 2009-march 2011(when he was denied) or march 2012(when he got his removal order) count towards his citizenship?

sorry ive tried to look into it and it is all a bit confusing.
:)
