Yes, we do plan to get married :) I have been seperated from my ex husband for 5 years but the divorce has also gone on that long. We run into complications, because one, I am not divorced yet and have a trial set for the end of November this year, then it will be 6 months after that I am officially divorced (it will be 6 years at that point). But my fiance can not come here obviously and you need to be divorced for one year before you can marry in Mexico, so we are stuck between a rock and a hard spot for now.
Well all that matters now is that he gets to Canada. :) We got married in Mexico, since he didn't have a visa to come here.. that was not a fun process either!! We barely got everything done.. but obvisouly in the end managed to get all the paperwork, but I think that the fact that we were dealing with someone who was younger and inexperienced helped :) I can't believe your divorce has taken so long. But by then you will be able to get married in Canada, as he will already be here :)

Ours went fast because

1. DH doesn't have to do Mexican police clearance
2. We were approved for a visa in 2010 and had to let it expire so everything was in the system already.

It was fast last time too because of # 1 but not this fast.

For me, this application started in 2010 and we started talking about it before getting married so for me it has been a long process and I can't believe we are going to FINALLY be in Canada soon!
Ah thats right, I forgot that you guys had done this before ! I guess it has been a long process for you, hope you guys go celebrate :)

When you get your PPR, are you allowed to go straight to the embassy in mexico city to get your passport stamped with the visa,
or do they tell you whether they want you to send it in, or if you can just go to mexico city and get it done in one day ?

You can go in and get it done same day. I would copy paste my PPR but the forum won't let me.

It worked below but sorry for the bad formatting.

Thank you so much - everyone! I still can't believe it.

Looks like August 2 will probably be our flight date. My dad's birthday, he will be thrilled.

I need to sell stuff, pack, close accounts, transfer funds - wow! And we still have a 4 night trip on the coast and a wedding. Lots to do and I love it! Now if only my toddler would NAP.

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice - i've been posting in the 'inland 2011' thread, but here may be more appropriate. I tried searching through some old threads, but am still confused

I'm a Canadian, sponsored my wife who is a Mexican, inland. We received our AIP and OWP last week, with a letter indicating that we need to send in the medical check, and police clearance, by August 20th.

My wife is on vacation in Guadalajara Mexico, until August 6th. Can you tell me what would be the best way to get the police check done? The agents at CIC haven't been very helpful in this matter, nor have the offices in Mexico that my wife has spoken to. My understanding, is that we need two things:

- Informe de datos registrales.
- Secretaría de Seguridad Pública

Can she obtain either of these easily while she's in Guadalajara? Because CIC wants these by August 20th, I'd like to get the process started ASAP, but am unsure what to do! Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

You need two police certificates for Mexico: the one from the PGR (Procuraduría General de la República) and the one from the SSP (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública).

For the one from the PGR (Constancia de Antecedentes Registrales if you get it in Mexico or Informe de Datos Registrales if you get it living abroad), you have two choices: Since she lives in Canada, she can send the required documents to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico (per the instructions on the CIC website here) for them to process it and submit the clearance to her inland VO or you can have her try to get it herself. Getting it herself could be faster, but you will need to get a letter requesting it officially via the Canadian Embassy in Mexico (good news is that she should be able to process it in Jalisco, assuming she gets the request). Additionally, you run the risk of the VO asking you to resubmit it since she should have done it via the Canadian Embassy in Mexico since she doesn't live in Mexico (I've heard of this going both ways).

For the SSP's Constancia de No Antecedentes Penales, the easiest would be for her to go to Mexico City and process the document same day (as long as she has her birth certificate and passport or IFE ID with her) or have a direct family member process it for her in Mexico City. Alternatively, you can try to persuade the Mexican Consulate to process it for you - the CIC website quoted above indicates they do and the SSP says the consulates should, but I'm familiar with one case where the Mexican Consulate in Canada said 'not true' and refused to help...and you'd have the complication of having her show up since she is in Mexico after all.

thank you for the prompt and detailed response! From the CIC site, for the 'Informe de Datos Registrales', it says she needs to submit fingerprints, pictures, and a letter quoting our client ID and some other information. Am I right in understanding that she could do all of that in Mexico, and send it to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City? Like the same as if she was to do it in Canada, she can do it in Mexico, and send it to the same place?

And for the SSP, she can try going to a Mexican Consulate to ask if they will process it, or else she can go directly to Mexico City and get it from the Canadian Embassy there?

Thanks again!!!
