I was curious if there was anything that may have held up your process? Did they ask for more proof or extra documents that may have slowed things down?

We are trying to be prepared for anything they may ask for.

there is no time line on how long a background check will take. It could be 1 month to 3-4 months or longer..

on my file it says that eligibility in progress but who's eligibility are they checking the sponsor or the applicant? I thought the sponsor eligibility was done long time ago in order to proceed with this sponsorship. they check again? for both parties?

From what I was told if the sponsor has received sponsorship approval then they have already completed the sponsor check, however if you are looking under the PA (Principal Applicants) ecas or GCkey that means they are still determining if they are eligible. I am applying for my husband and his still states that they are checking nothing updated since medicals passed.

thank you for responding .. so checking to see if the PA is eligible got it.. just don't understand why they would make you go through all of this and the PA is not eligible. but a lot could of happened from the time you applied to this stage/step

my husbands passport will expire in 6 months should he go and renew it now or wait until everything is over? or renew it when he is approved?

Renew it now. It has to be valid for 6 months when the visa is stamped in it

Just my two cents, the person might have other nationality, but I would like to provide a little context for our situation, Venezuelans don't have that choice, if you wish to renew a passport you have to pay up to 10000 USD to get it or you can also for eternity for it to arrive
The government created a passport extension program to solve this, but nowadays people are waiting for 4-6 months to get the famous sticker to extend the validity of your passport for 2 years

My wife's passport expires in November and she cannot leave the country if the passport does not have 6 months of validity. We are not requesting any extension nor a new passport as we are hoping to God that the PPR comes around August, which still gives her 3 more months to enter Canada. I have personally gone for a short trip down the border with a 2 months validity passport and came back to Canada with no questions asked at the border, so I am hoping it is the same for her

Oh, I received on Wednesday the email indicating that the application was being sent to Mexico and providing instructions to apply for CSQ, our application was received in Sydney on July 26th, 2018...

Might depend on the country
I know my husband is dominican and had to get it renewed as per mexico’s request.

Thank you for your scenario/example I actually called immigration and they suggested that he renew his passport as well as photo copy his old passport. They want to have 6 months validity in his passport. He is from Barbados. I realize everyone situation/ nationality is different. Thank you for sharing! Let me just say this group is amazing! Your answers and responses are right on the money( correct)

Are you talking about in GCKey? My understanding is that this step has more to do with your relationship itself and them verifying its legitimacy (i.e. eligibility to proceed under the family class).
