You can still get CIC to do it for you if you don't live in Mexico- you need to send the docs to the Embassy of Canada in Mexico. They process it and send the results to the visa office processing it for you. You just need to wait until you have a file number to send the request to the Embassy so you don't submit it upfront.

How long does it take for them to get the document?

That's a good question.

My understanding is that the PGR takes 10 days to process the request. The question is how long it takes the Embassy in Mexico to process the documents you sent to them and send them, along with their request letter, to the PGR and then how long it takes the Embassy to process it once it gets back, and how do they get it back (hopefully messenger and not mail!)

To figure all that out, we'd need to have folks who have submitted their documents follow up with their CAIPS/GCMS notes and share back. I hope folks do since it would be really helpful. If enough folks report back with details on their timing, we could even figure out if the Embassy submits requests immediately or batch processes them.

Me and my spouse (canadian) live in the USA. My spouse applied (sponsor) in May 2011 and got approved in June 2011. We received AOR from Buffalo in July 2011. In October 2011 they requested the police records from Mexico. Now here is my long story short:

Background: Lived in Mexico all my life. Went to Spain for 1+ year. Moved to USA. Therefore:

* I had to get the police certificate from Spain--what a pain--to send it with my application.
* I had to get the FBI one--an easy task; took time though--to send it with my application.
* Wait until the CIC asked me for the Mexican ones to send them within 60 days (deadline December 2011).
* I had to get the State and Federal police certificates from Mexico. The state one was an easy one; the federal had to be through the Canadian Embassy in Mexico (applying abroad). the CEM sent me a letter rejecting me the pictures because there was a light mustache shadow (this was in December 2011).
* I sent the State ones with an explanatory letter because of the above.
* In January 2012 the CEM sent my police certificate to CIC in Buffalo.
* Last month I wrote to CIC Buffalo to check if the received it.
* They informed me they cannot confirm each letter or email received due to the high volume of applications, and that they will update my application status accordingly.
* So far I have not receiver the PPR.

Any comments? In other words, the last document I needed to send was sent in January and I have not heard any news from CIC. My E-cas says IN PROGRESS.

Hey ohCanadiana, I've seen this somewhere before but cannot recall. Where did you get the info or do you know where I can find the location for the Jalisco office where it can be done?

Thanks!!

I got it from El Universal, which doesn't have the addresses.

The web indicates it may be Calzada Independencia 840 . Col. La Perla . Guadalajara Jal. . Tel. (33)3618-8979. Try calling that number first. Otherwise, call the PGR and ask them - "Usted puede marcar el 01 800 00 85 400, el cual cuenta con cobertura Nacional y es completamente gratuito, o desde la ciudad de México 53 46 15 40"

In my case, I sent all the documents via FedEx to the Embassy in Mexico on December 10th, 2011. They sent the results back to CIC in Buffalo on January 31st, 2012. When the Embassy in Mexico sent me a letter the first time informing me I needed to send new pictures, they used regular mail--and when I say regular mail in Mexico, it means it took 21 days!!: in summary, the cycle takes 2 good months.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us! To clarify, you sent them the second set of photos in December and it took the CEM 2 months to get the informe de datos registrales to Buffalo?

I don't understand why the CEM relies on the Mexican mail system. Seriously, grrr... you'd think they haven't learned the first thing about Mexico. But, don't be hard on yourself jeduardo, even if you had sent them a prepaid courier envelope they likely wouldn't have used it.

Also, don't worry about Buffalo having the info on your police certificate. I believe (not 100% sure but pretty sure) that they don't mail the physical certificate but instead give you clearance in the system. A few folks reported that they tried to do the process themselves and Buffalo rejected the antecedentes they were able to get (using letters issued by the Mexican Consulates in Canada) because since they didn't live in Mexico the Mexican police certificate clearance had to be issued by the CEM. So you should be ok.

One more question for you - how did you hear back from CEM that they sent the info to Buffalo VO?

Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the forum. :).

jeduardo-
This two months does not include the time spent getting the new pictures, correct?
Thanks.
You will surely hear something soon, man.

Thanks Oh Canadiana. To clarify, I sent them the second set of photos in December and took them around 45 days to send the IDR to Buffalo VO.

I heard back from CEM because I wrote them to check the status and here is what they answered: “Result was sent to the CIC Office/Mission processing your file on 31/01/2012.”.

So if they just cleared it in the system the process took 45 days; if they sent the results by mail, just add the time it would take to be in Buffalo (20 days aprox).

Hello Everyone!

I am being sponsored by my Canadian boyfriend and I have been asked to submit my police certificate from Mexico and, as I understand, just recently some states (including Nuevo Leon where I am from) are now issuing the federal "constancia de datos registrales". But I am still confused about the difference between "informe de datos registrales" and "constancia de datos registrales". Does anybody know about that? Does it just have to do with whether you live in Mexico or not and the certificate is the same??

I submitted the requirements (fingerprints, photos, etc) to the Canadian Consulate on Mexico City so that they could do it on my behalf, but I have read that it takes too long. I am also afraid that the pictures I sent do not meet their standards so I thought it was better to send a family member with a carta poder and the rest of the documents so that it gets done in my state. I also read on one of the comments of OhCanadiana that some folks had their certificates rejected, so I would really appreciate if anybody can guide me through this.

One last thing, if the Consulate in Mexico receives my police certificate from the PGR, would they send it to the case processing centre in Canada or would they mail the certificate to me?

Please help, any information will be very useful to me.

Hi and welcome!

We got our PGR certificate from one of the state offices about a month ago. They told us that the constancia and the informe is the same thing (they just call it differently in the state offices). We had no problems with ours, even though it came from the state offices!

For the pictures they ask for make sure they are size ¨filiación¨ (this is the one where it is a close up of your face) and ovaled! On the website it says pasport size and squared, but it has not been updated and they will refuse them!

The picture were the only problem we had with our PGR certificate. When you send in the certificate to the embassy make sure you have a copy of it and keep somke kind of record of sending it...they have had a tendency of losing some people´s pgr certificates!

Also it takes about 2-5 business days if you get it done at a state PGR office, whereas in Mexico city it takes 10 business days.

I´m sorry I can´t answer your question about where the consulate will send it to, since we went and got it at the PGR office ourselves. Hopefully someone else has some information about that!

Hello, and welcome, Cici!

To date, the Embassy of Canada in Mexico processes it once they receive it and inputs the security clearance directly into your record. Therefore, visa offices outside of Mexico prefer that if you don't live in Mexico you have the Embassy in Mexico process it. A few months ago, someone reported having a relative do it for them and having it be rejected when they mailed it to their VO since if you live abroad, you should go thou the Embassy of Canada in Mexico. So, buyer beware :)

The impact, of any, of the SSP certificates which they are requiring now on the process is unclear (and likely under development since the instructions are evolving).
