Hi people, mexican guy here, I just started the online process for the visitor/tourist visa to go Canada in Novemeber to visit my girlfriend for a weekend, as you may know, Canadian gov will remove visa requirements for mexican people starting Dec 1st, just needing the eTA, so my question is, If my tourist visa gets rejected, do you think I will have problems when I try to obtain the eTA? or is it a completely different process? as far as I could found the eTA gets approved in minutes but some cases can take days and I hope it doesn't because in December I would be in a rush for the flights because she will be flying back to her country in Dec 6 :( Thanks!

Its independent... you can go through the fast or slow track anytime for any reason.

Okay, I've seen some posts saying people have several months waiting for any reply of the IRCC enen if the website waiting time is 7 days, can I start the eTA process even if I'm in hold or stand-by by the IRCC? Gracias:)

I think if you put a strong application for your TRV, it should be approved. My husband is from Guatemala, we applied for his TRV in March 2015 and he was approved in less than 2 weeks, even got a multiple entry. I know it's a different country, but Central America in general is relatively similar.
Let me know if I can help! Good luck!

Hola!, what do you mean by strong application? I saw the TRV waiting times for Guatemala is 10 days and Mexico is 7 days, I'm doing all the process online, how much time it took to the visa to be delivered? or is just a paper or linked to the applicant passport? I know nothing about Canada things, I just have the US Visa haha Thank you so much!

Well we did a paper application, handed it ourselves to the Visa Application Center in Guatemala City. Got the email that a decision had been made on our application, went back to the VAC and got his passport back (that we had submitted with application) and inside was his visa, glued to one of the pages of the passport.

What I mean by strong application is that you need to prove you have strong ties to Mexico; basically the Visa Officer wants to see that you will go back home after your time in Canada. How to show that?

- Lease agreement or house ownership papers
- letter from your job saying that they approve the time off and what date you are returning to work
- school schedule where it shows what day you are supposed to go back to school
- evidence of family ties in Mexico
- proof of sufficient funds to pay for your entire time in Canada. If someone else is paying for you, they have to prove that they can afford it
- Travel history: if you have a US visa that's good, give evidence of that.

Oh okay, I get it now, there's no VAC in my city, I found agencies that do the process on behalf of me but it was very expensive, so I decided to try it online, I only had to fill three forms (IMM5257E, IMM5707E and 5257B_1) other requirements were, scan my passport with the seals of other countries (if i have it), scan my US visa, boarding passes of past travels, a digital photo and of course the payment, in the forms I got ask my job history, actual job or school, etc, nothing else, now that my process is being treated I have the next status:

Application/profile status Open

Review of medical results Not needed at this time

Review of submitted documents No additional documents are needed at this time

Scheduling an interview Not needed at this time

Review of biometric information Not needed at this time

Final decision Not Started

Surely you had the option to upload more documents? Sorry I am not familiar with the online process.

It is also good to have an invitation letter from the person in Canada. And you yourself should write a letter describing why you want to visit Canada, what are your plans etc.. We included that (and all the things I said in my previous post) in our application and we were successful...

Yes, the only additional docs I could upload was a kind of purpose-of-travel letter and something else that I don't remember ATM but yes, I think applying online is a weird process but if they book me an interview I have no problem to go.

Yes, the posted times are just an estimate based on 80% of the applications. That means that 1 out of 5 applications WILL take longer.

Mexico is not central America.

Haha I guess you're right, technically part of North America.

I work in a hostel in Guatemala and for travelers (mostly backpackers), Mexico is always part of the itinerary for typical Central America tour, that's why I always group it together. But you are right, my bad :p

Hey people, I just received a notification on my GCKey account saying that I need to deliver my passport to the CVAC more close to me, I thought my city didn't have a CVAC, I called and they told me they can send the passport and handle back to me in 5 work days, so does that mean my visa got approved? because the guy on the phone didn't know but he said it was probably approved, thanks!!

"Technically" nothing. Mexico is in North America.
