Mentioning Visa refused by UK in 2009 while applying for Visitors visa application

Hi,

My husband got visa refused in 2009 from UK. Now we are applying for Visitors visa application to Canada. Do I need to given explanation letter with application form or just writing the refusal ref no. and year would be enough.
If anybody can help on this.

I got refused once for a study visa and I checked the 'yes' box and there was space for an explanation below. Worked for me. Just be truthful.

Yes two or three lines should suffice. Just as long as they know the reason, because they can and will check anyway as the UK and Canada share data.
