You can do medicals before submitting your visa application. CIC has termed it as 'Upfront Medical'. The hospital will give you a letter (same day) after the tests are done, which you need to attach/upload with your application. CIC advices to submit the visa application after 5-7 days of the medicals.

what if I get the medical checkup done before them requesting for it?
then, you mess up things. yesterday, i read a post of a guy who did so (was it you?). The embassy asked to send the medicals later but as he gad already done one, he couldn't retake medicals within a year. 1 month after the medical request, embassy mailed they haven't received medical.
