So i am getting sponsored by my husband in canada and i have been waiting for a long time now. I applied in december and my visa is now in buenos aires argentina. i looked in september on the ecas website and it says:
under the permanent recident application status it says application received and then when i click on it it says this:

We received your application for permanent residence on January 6, 2012.

Medical results have been received.

is this a good sign? how long until i get an answer? and how long until they ask for my passport?

It's a good sign, it means someone is going through your application :) When did it get transferred there? From the time that it got transferred, the average time is 13 months for buenos aires

It also means that your medical results passed, which is also a good thing.

Good luck!

it doesn't say when it was transferred at all, i've just been waiting for a long time and then the ecas page turned to medicals results have been received this august i believe. How long does it usually take after it chages to medical results have been received?

Sadly, trying to figure out case progress by what happens on e-cas is a bit like reading tea leaves. But it does mean there is forward progress on your file, which is a good thing.

Sorry for bumping this, but, how do you know this Computergeek?

My medicals were one of the first things that were done and send directly to Vienna.
As soon as we got the Sponsor Approval notification, my Ecas was updated from "Not there" to - Received on June 13 (This would be Mississauga) with "Medicals have been received".

Because I've been down both paths path - for my first application instead of "medical results have been received" I started receiving additional requests from the immigration medical service. It didn't say "medical results have been received" until they sent a rejection letter (16 months later). The second application, the "medical results have been received" showed up almost immediately.

I wouldn't exactly say that means you passed, thing is with family sponsorship as long as your not going to cause an outbreak of a serious disease then there is really nothing that will stop the immigration process... I could be wrong but from my understanding Family class is the only class that you should submit medicals with the initial application therefore by the time they open your application your medical is already there hence the medicals have been received immediately in e-cas. To the original poster... The fact that you are seeing your application has been received and your medicals means it has moved on to the VO once someone at the VO opens your file you should see "we started process your application on XXXX-XX-XXXX and that will appear between your application has been received and medicals have been received.

If you were a threat to public health or public safety, your e-cas would not say "medical results have been received" because you would be receiving additional follow-up from the immigration medical service. Reasons for this would include active tuberculosis or syphilis, both of which must be treated and cleared before you will pass your medicals. What won't cause a fail is an excessive demand condition, in which case your medicals will be M39, but that's still considered to be a passing medical and e-cas will say "medical results have been received" because the M39 has been entered into GCMS.
