My wife and I are just gettting our application ready, and having trouble with the DMP's. The ones listed in her area on The immigration site are telling us we have to submit our application , and the get a letter from immigration before having the medical done.

This sound wrong to me, because it clearly states on the document checklist this has to be done before. Am I right in thinking this is wrong?

where are you living and what office are you applying to? both of those might make a difference. For some countries/visa offices, medicals are done before the application, for others, they are done as requested during processing.

be sure you are reading the correct region-specific guide, and looking at the correct checklists.

sorry , that was vauge.

I am Canadian, living in Canada, sponsoring an American Citizen living in Colorado.

Both Medical practictioners are saying we apply first, then they need a letter to know what kind of medical checks to do.

no worries! I've just learned not to assume these things, and know the region-specific guides can be quite different

and you're sponsoring your spouse/partner? not a parent or other relative? Because that might make a differences, as well.

you're contacting DMPs from the CIC website?

Honestly, I dont' know what to tell you, we never had the slightest issue with our DMP's office knowing what to do and how to do it. Maybe your spouse/partner will have to travel to a DMP in another state to get this done. Sorry.

your DMP's are incorrect. She should get your medicals done before hand. Print out appendix C of the country specific guide (US for her) and take it with her to the appointment. I'd call ahead of course and give them time to contact Ottawa RMC (regional medical centre) to make sure they know what they need to do.

Your DMPs are confused. Applicants in other categories get their medicals done later, when requested, but a sponsored spouse has to submit the medical with the application.

I am hearing conflicting stories on when to send in the medical. Is there any one who has gone through this and got their visa, That could say when they sent in the medical.

what type of application are your filing? inland or outland? what's your local CIC office if you're filing outland?

In general, you do your medical in advance before you send in your application.

No, if your spouse is in their home country, it is outland. All that you send in terms of a medical is the Section A, which is a greenish paper with one of the photos attached and the doctor's signature. The rest of the information should be sent directly from the doctor to CIC. You shouldn't send in your application without the section A.

If anyone is in Toronto and is looking for a Toronto DMP - I can recommend the one my husband used for his outland app. Let me know!
