Hi all

My parents visit visa expires on Dec 20, 2013 (6 months). We want them to stay with us until new year. So we are trying to apply for an extension for 1 month. While applying online I found that they are asking for medical insurance for one year. But when they got their visit visa they didn't have to provide with any medical insurance. My question is do I really have to do their one year medical insurance for one month visa extension? How can I apply online without medical insurance?

Hi!

For every person who intend to stay in Canada for more than 6 months, medical exam is required. If your parents stayed for 6 months already and you want them to stay more, they will need to pass medical test. I think it s doesn't matter for how long they are going to stay. Some of my friends were required to pass exam before they were applying for an extension.

However, I would recommend you to contact CIC call center (it s toll-free in Canada) and ask them your question. They will guide you for sure.

Not quite right. Person from a scheduled country require a medical to stay longer than 6 months. See: the list here to determine if they require a medical or not: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/dcl.asp

I think SHAC is talking about "medical insurance" I am going to do for my mothers in February as wel. I believe what you can do is, buy insurance for 1 month and explain that on the application. any other suggestions or thoughts PMM? thanks

Thanks guys for all your input. I've figured out the mistake I was doing while filling up the online form and that's why they were asking me for medical insurance. Now the only documents I need to provide is financial support documents, travel document and invitation letter.
