Im just wondering does my chinese wife visiting my family in Canada with me on a visiting visa need to buy medical insurance before we get to canada or can we buy it in canada.

question 2: the letter from her bank that states how much money she has available in her bank account we originally obtained in september and submitted it to the embassy with her visa application. the letter is dated from sept. to the end of Nov. we would ask the bank for a new letter but in doing so it would freeze her account and would not be able to use the money in canada, the only way to take the freeze off the account is to go back to the bank personally and have it removed. Do you think the original letter from the bank dated till november will be ok? Or should we bring some cash, and if we should bring some cash how much cash should we bring for one month stay?

question 3: we are going to stay in Canada for a week and then go to mexico for my brothers wedding for a week and then we will be comming back to canada for another 2 weeks before we come back to china. Does anyone know what I should put on the delcaration card for our date of departure and length of stay? Should it be till the date we leave for mexico or the date we leave for china? Im confused.

Thank you anyone for your input.

if your wife got the visa, she don't need a new letter. yes, bring some cash for local transportation. The rest you can get it from bank machine with the China unionpay logo or paid by credit card. if i were you, i would arrange a place to live before the trip to Canada.

when you meet the cbsa officer in airport, explain the situation to him/her.

Thank you anyone for your input.

Thank u for the reply Steaky. Yes we will be staying with my parents for the duration of the trip. Our carry on luggage is just a little over in size and weight. They usually don't check carry on for size and weight here but I'm not sure if it will fit through the X-ray. Hass anyone had experience with this before?

The airline does check the size of my carry-ons. If the luggage cannot fit the overhead compartment, they will put them in the checked baggage area.

Regarding the Insurance, you can do either - you can buy it before she arrives, or once she is here. The difference is that if she waits until she gets here there will be no coverage for usually the first 48 hours after application. This is to prevent somebody from waiting until they get sick and only then purchasing the policy. The product you want is called "Visitors to Canada" coverage. You can find out more about this product, Super Visa Insurance, Travel Insurance in General, or even other insurance like Life, Critical Illness, Disability Insurance, Employee Benefits and others on my website.

And in some circumstances charge you for the additional bag/weight :(
