Please be aware that this extension for the medical is for INLAND applications. Medical for outland applications are NOT extended for 1 year. You would be lucky to get them extended for a month!

The rationale behind extending a medical for inland applications is that the applicant is residing in Canada and, if there are medical issues, would receive care in Canada at a medical standard which is "known" by CIC. Also, the original medical would have been done in Canada and that's why they CAN (not will) extend it assuming the result from the first met an acceptable standard. It's at the discretion of the IO. So yes, if you are an inland applicant, had good medical results the first time around and it's taking more than a year for a decision to be made on your application, they can and often do extend the medical upto 2 years (but not more than that).

So many Inlanders have a very long wait that it's kinda nice that this is something potentially available to them.

Seriously??? I'm hoping that's a joke and not paranoia. I NEVER give anyone negative karma and have no desire or time to "stalk" anyone.

Look, I only point this out because inland and outland often get confused in the processes. There's already chatter on another thread with mainly outland applicants about the possibility of extending the medical. So many people rely solely on what they read on these forums and never check it out further. That's not smart but you know it happens. So no, I don't think EVERYONE got it.

You can thank someone ELSE for the negative karma. It ain't me.

LMAO! Don't flatter yourself.

My reply was certainly NOT attacking you. Yes, perhaps it was a bit of nit picking to clarify the inland/outland thing. That's just because those of us who've been around this forum forever have seen people make mistakes by not reading things through carefully. But it wasn't directed as anything negative at you personally. I don't know you, have know clue as to your character, morals, values or anything else that could allow me to make personal judgements about you. And since this is a forum to share information, experiences and give/get advice, I have no desire to personally attack and/or judge anyone. I have never and will never do that to anyone on this forum. But you can think whatever you like and be absolutely POSITIVE that I gave you bad karma. You would be wrong but if it will make you feel better, go for it.

Ok, just about had it with you. You either can't read or only see what you want to see.

I said I nit picked A post. ONE post. And then I even explained why I did it. Thought you might want to share in helping people out. Apparently not.

You might want to get over your delusions of grandeur that make you think you are special enough for me to "constantly nit pick" your posts. I comment on several posts every day. YOU are NOT special enough for me to remember! Geez! Get over yourself, will you?

Oh crap. I just wasted 3 whole minutes responding to you. That's 3 minutes I will never get back. I won't make that mistake again.

Hi there,

I found your posts by searching about info on medicals, tho not sure if the post is still active.

I was just wondering if you knew whether a medical would still be valid now if had it done in April 2013 but we have yet to submit our application.
I guess I should probably get it done again just before we put the application in (tho that's not cheap in London!)?

If it's true that they can extend the validity of the medical, then at least the new medical should be ok for the whole process I guess. The other choice would be to submit the application with the old medical and police certificate and then send them newer ones if and when required, so that they wouldn't expire during the processing period - but then I have heard that this could result in the application being delayed.

Thanks

probably not. even though cic has the ability to extend medical exams to help applicants get through landing, the medicals are only valid for 12 months. There is a rule about medicals being extendable if they are within 15 months, which seems to be a grace period for applications.

You can of course submit that medical report and see what happens, though my guess is they will request a new one down the road. It may or it may not cause delays, as people have different experiences with it. You will definitly need a police clearance that is dated within 90 days of delivery to cic. Not doing so will certainly prompt CIC asking for another one.

Thanks very much for the info,

I phoned the clinic in Knightsbridge, where I did my original medical. They confirmed that it had expired and I should do a new one, but also said that there was an option to wait and do it after the application had been submitted (instead of 'up front'), but they weren't sure how much of a delay this would cause in the processing (if any).
