So I've booked in for an upfront medical for spousal sponsorship and have been told some confusing information surrounding UMI and IME numbers. I was told since I'm doing it upfront that i have an 'inactive IME number' and that they will create a UMI number for me and that I have to make sure that gets to immigration or otherwise my medical will show as incomplete. Is this UMI number what comes out on the print out I'm supposed to send in with my application and then CIC will use that number to link to my medical results? Anyone gone through a similar sounding process with their medical, is this normal?

I did mine last week. They will ask you if it's upfront and they will give you a receipt afterwards when you pay. Then you will get an email to print. I got mine the next day. It will have a bar code on it. Print that and attach to your application as proof of medical. The Drs office will electronically send Immigration the results right away and when you mail your packet/application the bar code you printed will match with the results the Dr. sent.
Take your passport to the medical exam. They need to copy it.

Ok thanks, I will have to just clarify everything with the medical office to make sure everything goes smoothly. It sounds like this UMI number is what the CIC will be able to link to my medical results in the emedical system. Really don't want any delays from a medical.

They did forget to have me sign a release. I drove 60 miles to their office and when I drove 60 more to get home I had an email asking me to sign the attached release and send it back. Argh. So I created an electronic signature, applied it and sent back by email. I think that's why my medical was sent to immigration a day after I had it instead of the same day. Oh by the way they also asked which country I was doing the medical for.

Did you do yours in Canada or overseas? I'm doing mine in Ontario so I don't think they get a lot of upfront medical requests.

The dr. will give you two receipts of the e-medical which should have your picture and a barcode. The Dr. will send the results electronically to CIC. In the application guide CIC instructs you to send one copy of the emedical results along with the application.

My husband did his in Ontario. He took his passport and they took his photos their. They gave him a receipt and he sent that off with his application. Make sure you do your xray and blood work. Most often in same building, but i have read where some have forgot to do them and medical was incomplete.

Didt he receipt have a UMI number, barcode and his photo on it? From the reading I'm doing now it seems like this should be the sheet I get to send off with my application.
