So, I'm a US citizen (by birth) living in Canada with my wife on visitor status while I wait for my outland spousal application to be processed. We got medical tests done at the beginning of August and mailed the application package in to CPC-Mississauga on December 2 (late thanks to the three-month wait for PCC, ugh)...but this morning, I got an email from "DELHIMEDICAL/MEDICAL@international.gc.ca" saying that "further medical information" was required before a decision could be reached and that I needed to go back to the Panel Physician for more tests. I guess there are a few things that are confusing and worrying me, and I'd love it if someone could give me some advice. :x

1. Is this legit or likely to be some kind of mixup? Why would the New Delhi VO be contacting me? I sent my application to Mississauga, and I'm a US citizen who's never been to India in her life and afaik the embassies that handle US applications needing a closer look are LA and NY, so...I'm really confused. Should I call CIC or something?

2. Should I be worried about them asking for further tests? I had to extend my visitor status back in October, and I included a copy of the eMedical sheet b/c I asked for another year and I thought a medical exam was required for that; CIC gave me another year in-country, so is that a sign that everything's probably okay? Or should I be panicking?

3. Delhi medical contacted me on an email other than the one i listed on my immigration paperwork (it's just my first name and last name at hotmail, so not super secret or anything, but still) and they listed a one-letter-and-13-digits UCI that doesn't match the one on my visitor record and a 'medical file number' that wasn't the same as the UMI on my eMedical paper. Is this....normal? Is this some kind of really elaborate phishing email? What's going on?

I'm kinda freaking out right now, so...thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a mistake by CIC, or a scam by someone.

I suggest you contact CIC ASAP, either by phone or fax them a copy of the email. You can find their contact information on their website.

Good luck!

Don't respond to it. The numbers don't match and that is very suspicious, especially since it's not a visa office that should have your file. I'd notify the CIC immediately so they are aware that this is going on. IMHO plus it doesn't hurt to check from the actual source. I'd email either CPC-M or Ottawa.

It sounds very much like some sort of scam email. Do not respond to it and instead be sure to forward it to the appropriate department @CIC.

If you are not a resident and/or citizen of New Delhi then you will NOT be contacted by them for your visa processing. The only folks who SHOULD or could be contacting you are those from Ottawa or maybe Los Angeles if your application gets sent to them for some reason.

Small update! I....wasn't able to get through to a live person at CIC all day (sigh), so I called the clinic where I went for the upfront medical and i'm just more confused and worried now.

I gave them my info and asked if there actually was something in my eMedical file, and after the receptionist checked she said there *was* something in my file and that I needed *something* further but that she couldn't tell me what was needed or how much it'd cost or *anything* - she just had me make an appointment and said the doctor would tell me everything. Should I be worrying?

Also, maybe this'll sound like a dumb question but how should I contact CIC? Should I just use the case-specific enquiry form or is there an email I should use? The only email I could find was the CPCM-EXTCOM @ cic.gc.ca one for reporting changes in family status, and that doesn't sound like what I need, so...

This is getting really odd  :(. I would call them back and ask to speak with the doctor personally. I would be uncomfortable with the fact that they won't tell you anything without an appointment that they will likely charge you for. I hesitate to say you should use that email as you don't have a file number or anything yet. So you may have to wait until the CIC contacts you if there is in fact an issue, which they can do. But I defer to senior members beyond that.

This is probably because some of your tests were not clear. Contact doctor's office, they should tell you what is wrong. I had this issue with my x-rays. There was some shadow, so the physician was not sure about the diagnosis. He called me in to do additional x-rays that clarified the situation. And my medical results were sent the same day.

So....I went to the Panel Physician's office today and things are just....I don't even know what.

The receptionist was like 'oh it's probably a mixup, the doctor will know more, don't worry,' and then the doctor actually saw me, and he said that number one, the NDVO thing is normal because sometimes other visa offices pick up medical exam backlog, and two, the NDVO requested a psychiatric evaluation. I assume this is because when the doctor asked if I was ever hospitalised, I mentioned being in for a few days ~3 years ago on account of a suicide attempt (which...wasn't an actual attempt or anything so much as talking about it and an overprotective ex marching me to the hospital and etc.)...but still, it seems a little weird.

That's not the really worrying thing, though! See...the doctor said that he 'would have to find me a psychiatrist,' and when I asked how much it usually costs, he said the last time he referred someone for a psych eval it was "about five hundred dollars." He was really cavalier about it, too -- when I said neither me nor my spouse have a lot of money, he was just like 'well, if you did it in America it'd cost a lot more.'

Is...is this as fishy as it seems like? I tried googling but I can't find any info about psych evaluations as part of the upfront medical exam. And, you know, holy shit five hundred dollars -- maybe I've just been lucky but I've never heard of a psychiatrist/psychologist charging that much for anything! (except in the hospital, where about 10-15 minutes telling the staff psychiatrist 'no i don't want to hurt myself' turned into a $460 bill.)

What should I do? :x

Wow...it's bad enough when your local cable company farms out their technical support to India, but if CIC is doing the same thing for medical results for someone that's never even stepped foot into their country...that's beyond absurd!

You should definitely contact someone at CIC (IN CANADA), and/or your partner/spouse's MP to see if they can do anything for you.

This sounds like a bad horror movie!

FYI:

Pakistan and Afghanistan med results are also sent to NDVO, Pakistan's cases are never processed in India BUT med is always gone if done UPFRONT. So you cant say what CIC is doing with med outsourcing or whatever.

Perhaps, but if the NDVO is asking for an additional exam (psychological) for a person that may not have been asked for this, if their app was NOT being `farmed out' to that visa office...you can see why it really makes no sense.

yeah you are right but keeping both things in mind and thinking false positives OP must contact CIC ASAP as you have already asked to do.

Generally, If you have no links to India, your application should not have been sent to NDVO for processing. Do you or your husband have ties/family in India? But it is possible that CIC might have sent your file for processing to India under work load distribution though it does not make much sense since NDVO already has a huge backlog.

2. Should I be worried about them asking for further tests? I had to extend my visitor status back in October, and I included a copy of the eMedical sheet b/c I asked for another year and I thought a medical exam was required for that; CIC gave me another year in-country, so is that a sign that everything's probably okay? It is a concern but you have to comply if CIC requires further tests. If you don't do it or delay it your application may be denied.

UCI is an Eight Digit Number in the format xxxx-xxxx. So the number with a letter and 13 digits is some other number. You might be comparing two different items..

I'm kinda freaking out right now, so...thanks in advance for any help.
Since the Panel Physician has also mentioned to you that you need to go for Psychiatric Evaluation then it seems that the Email you have received from NDVO is a genuine email (Though it is questionable that why your application is being processed in New Delhi.)

I will suggest that you complete the Medical and hope for the best. Do you have discharge papers from your hospital visit, you have mentined in your other post? Take it with you to Panel Physician.

As suggested by others, communicate with NDVO via case specific link on CIC website. It is also important to note that NDVO does not neccessarily reply to emails immediately. Sometimes it is few months before you receive a reply.

You're sure this doctor isn't scamming you? The doctor is the most suspicious character in this saga. Personally I'd wait for the sponsorship approval letter, since if there is a deficiency with the medical, it should be be mentioned in the SA letter and you should still have plenty of time to address that and send it to the visa office they say they transferred your file to before that office gets very far into processing.
