Hey guys

Just wanted to double check something to make sure I am not going wrong here..You know how confused this whole sponsorship application makes you!!!

I am applying for my spouse's sponsorship from Canada and he is living in UK. Am I right in saying that he has to get his medical done first and I have to include a confirmation of medical done with the initial application itself?

Its just that I am confused coz some people in the forum have mentioned that they got the medical done later. But I guess for spousal applications medical examination proof is required in the beginning of the application itself..

Please can you assure me that I am not making a mistake and any info you can provide on this will be great. Thank you all in advance.

This site may help you out :)

As far as i am aware though it is best to have it done first as it saves your application being delayed later when they ask you for it :)

according to the check-list of the required documents for sponsorship application - medical is a must, as well as the police certificate

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.PDF

the police certificate is usually valid for 6 months...sometimes they say 1 year...but no longer than a year

He will need a police check from every country he has lived in for 6+ months. This will tell you what you need done for each country.

Thanks a lot guys, so he definitely needs a medical which assures me as this is what i had thought. Also police cert is valid for 6 months to a year. Thats cool. I was worried as read somewhere that its only valid
for 3 months. Thanks once again for clarifying this.

The police certificate must be no more than 3 months old when the application is received. How long it lasts after that, I'm not sure. I've read in some cases they've asked for them to be redone if the application has taken a long time to process.

Yes, definitely do the medical beforehand and submit proof with your application.

Emmy is right -- you have to submit the police certificate within 3 months from date of issue. My husband had to submit a 2nd police certificate while his application was in process. They never said why. I think because there was a typo on the original.

Starkie,

I agree with the other posters - you should do your medical as close to when you are submitting [but prior]. Medicals are good for one year, and usually you have to land within a year of the medical being done [which is why you will hear of some people having to re-do their medical - as they did it very early, and long before submitting their applications, and then the processing took a while - and their medical expired during that processing.]

The form the physician will give your spouse is an IMM 1017, Medical Report - Section A. On this form, will have the spouse's name, DOB (date of birth), Country of Birth, Gender, relationship to Sponsor, Address etc.. and then Physician's details, and the physician's signature. It will also have a copy of your spouse photo on the form, in the upper right hand side. You need to include this form with your actual application.

Fingerprints and Police Certificates must be received by the CIC-M within 3 months of issue to your spouse to prevent having to have it re-issued.

Good Luck :).
