Hi,

We have medicals coming up in a couple of weeks.

Our only concern is my wife, 7 years ago she had a seizure, then diagnosed with epilepsy. Her last seizure was 3 years ago. She has a Alberta driving licence after being cleared by her doctor. It's controlled by medication. Will this cause her to be inadmissible?

If you're applying via CEC program and your wife is listed as dependent, then she will need to meet eligibility based on excessive demand criteria. This means if CIC feels that her condition will result in costs to Canadian healthcare or social services greater than approximately $6,285 per year for 5-10 years, they would deem her inadmissible.

I'm not sure how epilepsy is treated in specific by CIC. You should gather lots of evidence in the meantime such as full details of her treatment schedule and full history. Before CIC rejects anyone for excessive demand, they will first give you a chance to give more info to hopefully alleviate their concerns. So you need be prepared to show ample proof, supported by your own doctors, that the condition is under control and will not cost Canadian healthcare much money.

We've been here as tfws for 19months and she has never had a seizure or been to the doctors regarding epilepsy. Well only for a repeat perceptions. She definitely doesn't need social services or will need it. She's going to he doctor in Calgary to get a letter to say it's very well controlled and only ever had night time seizures

Application through PNP Alberta (electrician)
