Dear Members,

I would appreciate you providing me with your feedback regarding an issue I am having with my medical exams.
We made the medical exams, my spouse and I, two months ago, the medical exams of my spouse were totally clean while my medicals showed a positive VDRL Test (Slightly positive) and the designated medical practitioner advised that I may have syphilis and another more advanced test (TPHA) should be done. I did the TPHA Test and the results were negative. Therefore the doctor advised that I am medically clean and this could be due to several other reasons and the VDRL test is mostly inaccurate, and that there is no reason to worry about. All the results (both VDRL and TPHA) had been sent to the concerned Canadian Immigration office.

Lately, I have received a letter from the CIC addressed to the same medical practitioner, advising that I have to re-do the VDRL test, the doctor tried to get in touch with the concerned office to explain the case without success, so I had to re-do the test and once again the VDRL test was positive and the TPHA was negative. The results had been sent along with a letter from the doctor explaining the full situation.
I would like to have your feedback about my issue and whether this matter will affect my immigration application given that we have been waiting for so long and now we are really scared that we might loose the opportunity.

NB: HIV test negative

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

A positive test result usually may mean you have syphilis. The VDRL test's ability to detect syphilis depends on the stage of the disease. The test's sensitivity to detect syphilis nears 100% during the middle stages; it is less sensitive during the earlier and later stages. however, its results aren't conclusive... some conditions may cause a false positive test, including:
-HIV
-Lyme disease
-Certain types of pneumonia
-Malaria
-Systemic lupus erythematosus

I believe your DMPs recent explanatory report might be accepted by the RMO-CIC. However, if they don't, it'd most probably result in u getting another notification to undertake the next step, ie. to confirm/negate the results with an FTA-ABS test, which is a more specific syphilis test.

U'd thus have some delay/s -- but eventually u'd sail thru successfully.

Relax & be positive...

Good luck !

Hi Qorax,

Thank you for your reply.

Actually I did another more specific test for Syphilis it is called TPHA, it is the most recent and accurate test and both times it was negative. that's why I have found the request of the CIC Office a bit weird to re-do the test (maybe they didn't pay attention to the TPHA test) sent at the first instance.

I really hope that the DPM's letter will solve the situation, as I have been waiting since may 2007 and I already did the medical exams 3 times.

Thanks and Regards.

Bruno, you can read this article for some brief information...

A positive test can also mean other things. SO might require screening. Hopefully you will get through.

For a detailed account read this;

Best of Luck.

Thank you devil for your reply,

Actually this matter was bothering me a lot lately and I have been doing deep researches about Syphilis.

But let us suppose the worst case scenario, that the CIC office will consider that I have syphilis, which is not the case because of the following factors:
1- my spouse did the medical test and everything was normal.
2- we are in a monogamous relationship and non of us had, at any time, any sexual intercourse, with any person
3- I haven't witnessed any of syphilis's symptoms
4- though the VDRL test was reactive twice, the specific Syphilis test (TPHA) was negative.
5- all other meds that I have done by my own were clean.

do you consider that my application could be rejected? that's what is worrying me the most.

thanks and regards.

Dear Bruno, it would be very difficult for anyone to answer this question with asurity...I realize that mental strain it would be causing you. You can try to discuss with the DMP as well, but, you best answer will come from Immigration authorities. I hope that it should not be a big issue.

Try to get your mind off this thing (I know easier said that done)....wait for the Immigration Office response.

I hope that you get through.

BEST OF LUCK..

Dear All,

With a great pleasure I inform you that everything went fine
I have just received a letter from the Immigration Office asking for our passports …. So after being waiting for long time (early 2007) and after many stages, complications, hard time, pressure, waiting and prayers … I proudly pronounce “We Got IT”
I just feel that I would like to go out and scream out loud.

Rhozie: try to reach your DMP, I believe that the letter explaining the situation is very crucial
