Dear PMM,

First of all thanks for all your good advices. I have been reading through the whole website and have read some good pointers from you. Thanks for all the help.

OKKK, I am not sure if I am asking a silly question but was wondering if you would be able to guide me on this. I am soon going to be marrying my fiancee and will be sponsoring her subsequently after to move to Canada. We intend to get married this December. She is now on holidays. Do you know if she can see the Medical MD before we get married? or does it matter? She has some time right now and could go while being off work.

Let me know.

Thank you

Thanks Mikeramma, but I'm more confused now..if you read Page 32 of the Family Class Sponsor's guide which is basically a flow chart of how the application cycle begins from start to finish, you will see that before Step 1, they state " YOU SEND YOUR APPLICATION TO SPONSOR AND THE APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE OF THE PERSON YOU ARE SPONSORING TOGETHER TO THE CASE PROCESSING CENTRE IN MISSISSAUGA- The Person you are sponsoring and his or family members SHOULD HAVE undergone the immigration medical examination". Then Step 1 begins which is the evaluation of the application and so on until Step 3.
This is soooo confusing. :(

You need to be clear about the persons "you can sponsor"

Untill you got married, you cant sponsor your fiancee. Therefore, the situation you quoted is not valid to you untill you got married. and eventually your fiancee cant get a medical exam till you two got married.

Thanks! yeah..that's what i figured..that she can't go for the medical tests PRIOR to us getting married... we were just thinking of saving time since we know for a fact that we will get married in december...
in any event, can anyone tell me for sure if after we are married, do we go for medical exams and then send the application in or do we send the application without the medical exam and wait to be asked to go for medical?

Hi FinPro & Mikeramma,

Thanks for the info but so that everyone is clear and knows the actual policy about this, i called the CIC Immigration Office and they told me that when you are in the SPONSOR class and are sponsoring a family member such as in my case a "spouse", she will have to submit the MEDICAL EXAM report TOGETHER with the application. If it was an actual independent application whereby someone is applying on his or her own to immigrate to Canada, then, the person waits for further instruction before going to get checked up at an MD.
As for doing the test before getting married, they said that's fine too given that the test results does not change before or after getting married(which makes sense).

Hi CMK2,

well if immigration office is giving some information that should be authentic. Now the only thing is these tests are valid for an year as mentioned on their website. If you think that you can immigrate to canada yourself then can sponsor her plus she can finish her process in less than an year from the date of medicals you can go for it.

Best of luck.

I was wondering, would the DMP inform me of any findings that they have on me?
We (my daughter and I) finished our medical on November of last year, and I asked her (DMP) straight on whether I'd be informed of any problem and she simply said yes but explained no further. Would I be informed of findings?

They'll inform you if anything comes up that you need to be concerned about healthwise. No news is good news.

Hello cmk2

You seem to be getting answers from people who are applying in a different class than you are, and that is what is so confusing. When applying outland in the Family Class Sponsorship you need to do your medical exam and send the green form in with your application. Like someone else said Medical Exams are only good for a year, meaning that she might be asked to do it twice, if the process takes longer than a year. (I've heard that sometimes they extend the timeframe, especially for spousal sponsorships, since medical results are not able to affect the decisions made in any way, but this is not definite.) So, really, it's up to you guys. If you think that it's an advantage to do the exam now, by all means do so. I would advise you to wait until you are closer to the date that you will send in your application in order to have less of a possibility of doing it twice...

I feel the need to point out that the original post--and this entire thread, except for cutiecorrie's post--is over 4 years old now.

You can not take medical exam before marriage. In sponsorship application, you have to send medical exam report along with application. So once you get married, book DMP's appointment.

Hope this helps.
