Okay, so I received my meds request yesterday and I've got 60 days to get the medical exam done. I'm freaking out a bit because I'm worried I'm going to get to the appointment and not have everything I need. The letter specifically says that I'll need to bring "Any medical reports or test results that you may have as a result of previous or existing medical conditions." I can't muddle through what they're asking for. I don't have any current condition other than allergies. I take an allergy pill as needed and I'm on birth control. I don't have any health problems, but there has been at least one occurrence of me in the hospital with a cyst that needed a little monitoring. So I guess what I'm asking is, what conditions do they want to know about? Do they need to know about oral surgery? And if anyone out there who's already done their medical would like to offer some kind words, I'd appreciate it. I'm so worried they'll find something wrong with me and then our application will be rejected. Thanks in advance!

you need to relax. you don't need to bring medical records. when you call the doctor's office, they will tell you what is needed. either it's going to be your passport and passport pictures, or just your passport and they will do the pictures there.

the exam is a basic medical exam, and any forms you fill out will be general medical history forms that you most likely have filled out before in your lifetime. it will be a 5-10 minute physical exam where the doctor checks your bp, lungs, reflexes, nose, throat, etc. then you will have blood drawn, will do a pee test and then send you to get a check xray. they are checking for communicable diseases. they do not care about asthma or allergies. past surgeries aren't an issue either and generally neither is recreational drug use. it's pretty standard stuff and nothing to get all anxious about. once the exam is done, the doctor will electronically send the results to cic, and will give you an "emedical" receipt which you will send to CIC to confirm your exam.

I had my exam done in Ottawa, literally all I brought was my passport. The nurse took my passport to the back and opened an electronic file for me. Then they took me in to get weighed, height measurement. Then I had to pee in a cup (they do a dip stick test). Then they took my picture. Then the doctor came in the room and asked me questions. Everything was NO basically. lol. The doctor was great actually, you could tell that he does these tests a lot. He was filling out a form on the computer and going down the list. He did a physical exam, listened to my lungs, moved my legs around. Honestly, it was super simple because I am a healthy 29 year old. He wasn't too concerned. He then said "welcome to Canada" and sent me on my way to X-ray and Blood. The clinic I went to did everything in-house and charged me once price ($210 CAD). They really just want to make sure you aren't going to bring any communicable disease with you.

I have allergies, which he wasn't even concerned about.

They gave me a print out of the Electronic "face sheet." I don't recall what its called but it is pretty much the basic information of the file they created for me with my picture, tests done etc. They called me one week later to tell me all my tests came back normal and they had forwarded my exam and results electronically to CIC. I included the Printout they gave me at the clinic with my application.

Hi guys,

I'm applying outland for spousal sponsorship (Sydney office) but my spouse and I are currently in Canada. We are leaving BC to visit family in Ontario at the end of October and then leave Ontario for Australia mid November. We want to send our application in before we leave Canada because we would rather not have to take all our documents with us just to mail them back here. I see that the OP received a request for meds, so my question is this: Is it a huge deal to send CIC my medical receipt after we submit our application or is it a common occurrence? From searching this forum and looking at the CIC's website, I've seen some conflicting information. Obviously, doing it upfront streamlines things but given that the Sydney office is quick to process would we be delayed significantly if we just wait til I'm home to do my exam? There is only one doctor nearby that can do my exam and it could take 3 weeks to get an appointment, let alone find out my results.

Also, can we send the receipt before CIC requests it? Or would it be best to just wait until they ask for it, if we go this route?

Sorry for asking a similar question but all I could find was info from 2008 on here.

The clinic that did my medical sent it to CIC before I sent my application. I then attached the exam paperwork the clinic gave me to my application. I am assuming they have it all now. I haven't heard from CIC yet though so who knows lol

OP applied inland; they don't require the medical to be done beforehand because of the long processing times.

Outland requires the medical to be done beforehand. Submitting your app without proof of the medical risks it being returned as incomplete or delayed when they have to request it from you.

See if there are any Panel Physicians near where you will be in Ontario.
