I had done my medical from ircc panel physician in january 2016.. can u please let me know how long is it valid for?

They are valid for a year. You are required to land in Canada before the year is up. If the year expires before you get your pr confirmation, CIC will ask you to complete another one.

Validity of medical is only 6 months when you are submitting your application.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

Applicants and their family members must undergo upfront medical examinations and submit all required police certificates as part of their complete application. Medical results must be valid for six months at the time of application. In exceptional circumstances, processing offices may be flexible in accommodating these requirements where delays occur outside the control of applicants.

Both answers are right; Medical results are valid for 12 months, but there should be 6 months of validity left at the time of application. As the linked article states, CIC may be flexible with what they'll accept, but in this case you only have 2-3 months of validity left, so it wouldn't be totally unreasonable of them to ask you to retake it.

My husband applied for a student visa in July 2017. He had his medical in May of 2017. By mid August of 2017, his visa application was denied. However, I got ITA today from the express entry system. When we visited the clinic for medicals, it was found that his old medical is still active in the emedical portal hence they could not create a new slot for him. We had to do their test without him. Since he had the medicals in May 2017, it would have expired by now. What could be done to rectify this please?
