Medical Exam Validity / Expiry date

Hello,

Just a quick question about the validity / expiry date for medicals. I tried reading the guide and search this forum but was not able to get a straight answer. So my question is:

I understand the medical exam results are valid for 1 year. If I were to apply for sponsoring my spouse within that 1 year (whether the first month or 6 months since medical exam), does it matter? I am not sure how long the results need to be valid for? upto the time the application is launched or does it have to be valid for the entire length the application is in process? please advice.

thanks

you have to have valid medicals to be able to enter canada...so they will not issue a visa unless your medicals are valid and you will be able to travel before they expire.

in other words, if you get your visa and your medicals expire in a week you will have to travel and land in canada before they expire

so unless your work is done in 6 months and your spouse can land by then, she will have to most likely redo her medicals

Just to shade some more light on our case:

My spouse did her medicals on 10/feb/2012 and we are planning to launch the application in 2 weeks. She is an American citizen and we do not live together as yet hence are applying through the outland route.

What do you suggest? Should we go ahead and submit the application?

thanks

I would say, just go ahead with submitting the application. Your spouse may be lucky enough to land before her medical expires. Worst case scenerios she needs to re-do medical later if the application is not completed in time, but it's no worse than she doing it now.

My wife did her medical in early March 2012. The medical results were transfered to the regional medical office, in our case, Beijing. Our VO is Hong Kong and our app was received at CIC-M on April 13. Will the medical results be sent to the VO in Hong Kong ahead of the app arriving? If so, they just keep it on record and add it to the app when it is received at the VO...is that how it works?

Thanks,

FS

Pretty much @ FS

Basically I think it may differ from vo to vo and dmp to dmp how fast they get the meds to the vo, however in my case my husbands medical was done oct/26 and by about december it said medicals recieved on ecas, but that is by all accounts unreliable. Dont worry it will be there :D

Not an expert, but from what I found in my GCMS for my case...

1) VO found my medical receipt.
2) VO made a request to 'IMS'.
3) 'IMS' returned the medical result back to VO.
4) VO updated system to pass my medical.

Note: Not sure what 'IMS' is, but I guess it's some kind of centralized system or office that holds the medical results.

My husband did his medicals June 14/11.. As far as I know they are on the medical portion, I guess background check at sametime from my understanding of the process. My husband had to sign a waiver of medical for his dependent which was sent back to them overnite delivery April 11/12... So my question is do you think they are close to finalizing our application? hoping so his medical doesnt expire before he can land, give him time. any ideas? what would be the chance of an extention?

A few people here say medical is among the last steps, so hopefully you will hear something soon.

Some posts suggest that if you happen to be inside Canada when your medical expires and you haven't been out of Canada since then till the VO finalise your application, you may be granted an extension. No solid proof though.

Is it one year from the day medical is done at the DMP or when results are received at the Visa office?

Our application took more than 1 year to complete and the medical was extended for 1 year. The PR visa was dated to expire 2 years from the time the medical was taken. The medical was taken in Canada and we remained in Canada throughout the application process.

To my best knowledge, It all depends when u submit your application,, medicals should not be more than 6 months old when u submit your application, after that , even if the embassy takes more time,, like 9-10 months, and the medicals are over 1 year till the end of the process,, but its rare that they will ask for re-medical,, rare case..

I'm not sure if I have seen in the guide saying medical needs to be within 6 months when CIC receive the application. It only says medical is valid for 1 year.
Can you point out specifically in which guide it says so please? Thanks!
