Hi guys,

my spouse got a B for her medical exam because she disclosed the fact that she may be a thalassemia gene carrier (mild form), but never confirmed. However, the doctor also noted "no significant abnormal findings" after Grading B. Do you think our case will be rejected/delayed? Sorry these tiny details are killing me

Thanks in advance for your input.

If she isn't taking any medicine/dialysis, it should be fine. Agents take decision on case to case basis. If required they will ask for additional tests.

Thank you for your reply. No she is not taking anything, just like a normal person. Do you know if the agents have medical expertise to know these cases or a B grade will immediately raise a red flag and give them a reason to delay a case?

I have thalassemia minor which I obviously disclosed and CIC didn't ask any questions. My medical was passed without any problems. You will be fine, don't worry.

Hi again, I just noticed that it took two months for your medicals to get cleared. Do you think it could be thalassemia minor that's taking so long? Thanks!

As a side note, I have mild epilepsy. Had it since birth, probably 30 in total but in the last 10 years only 5, if that. Daily low level common medication. There's a bit of me that's concerned about the medical but tbh I haven't cost my home country anything in hospital bills since I was 18months old so I can't see a dr 'failing' me (they can't even do extra tests for it).

My only concern is that in past visa applications it asked if I had a serious disease or medical issue and I selected "no" as I have never considered it a serious condition (although epilepsy is hard as 1 person having seizure can be called Epileptic as well as a poor soul who has 30 seizures a day). So, opening g it up to the room and hijacking a thread, should I be concerned about past non-declarations?

You have to disclose it. There is a specific question in the medical form where it asks: do you have thalassemia? If you say no that's clear misrepresentation. Thalassemia minor is so easy to pick up from your blood test, so don't risk it. I have it, disclosed it and jave not had any problems passing my medicals. It is not a serious condition and you shouldn't hide it from them.

Thank you Tocanadawego and Krypton for your reply .

Hi Tocanadawego : May be i am bothering you much...Just wanted to know if they asked for any additional tests (or anything) once u disclosed about thallesemia minor or it went smooth.
Also, in the specific question , if they ask about any past condition or medical history , answer has to be "no" ? (as it is not a major disease and does not require any medications)

They didn't ask for any additional tests. It all went smoothly. I am pretty sure they are well familiar with thalassemia, so don't worry.
As for the medical history, you can obviously say you have never had any serious illness, although I don't remember a question that wasn't specific. They list all the diseases/conditions and then the nurse asks you questions and checks off for your answers. So don't worry, seriously, you'll be fine with thalassemia minor (major, that's another set of problems).
