Hello everyone,
I planned to bring my father for 6 weeks months to Canada and he applied for a regular visa at the Bucharest office. He received a request to take a medical examination and medical insurance for at least one year and 100k. I corresponded with the visa office via email and I made it clear that the application was for regular visa, not for a super visa. He would have been eligible for a super visa as well, but considering he has no intention to stay longer periods of time, we simply decided not to apply for one.
The response from the embassy was that the visa was being processed as a regular visa (I doubt that is true, at least when they first evaluated the application), and that they stand by their request. Ok, he will take the medical examination, but the request for medical insurance is absolutely outrageous, IMO. So I have to buy 1 year worth of insurance and pay roughly 2,000 CAD for a 6 weeks visit???? Not to mention that this was totally out of the blue and the ticket that I already purchased is now wasted, the visa cannot possibly be issued on time now.
He was in Canada before, always abiding by the rules of the visa. He stayed almost a year once (that was more than 5 years ago) but everything was according to the rules, after 6 month we extended his stay.
I can understand the officer discretion to ask for a medical examination, but can he ask for medical insurance? Specially for one that is for a time frame much longer than the intended stay???
Can anybody offer some insight/advice on this?
Thank you,
Marc
