I live in england Uk and my fiance in toronto. Once we are married at the end of the year we will be submitting our application once the marriage certificate comes. Should I get my medical done just before we send off the application or is it best to wait for the office to tell me to go and get one done? I just want it processed as quick as possible without delay!

Hi, I did mine before I sent the application off. It saves time for sure.
Good luck!

I agree. It seem like the visa offices misplace things when sent separately or it delays the process. Any time they have to request something it appears to slow down things. This is just what I've gathered from reading other peoples posts and my own experience. Those that send things in together generally get their PPR's faster than those that don't.

how long does london usually take to issue a visa? Once they request your passport how long is it normally until they send it you back? I need to know because I have to work 4 weeks notice at my full time job!

Its around 2 weeks before you get yoru passport back, but could take longer. Its usually pretty quick though. It doesnt matter where you get medical done. I applied outland through london visa office, but got my medical done in canada when I was visiting. Only difference is its cheaper in canada!!

I had my medical done in Manchester as that was the medical office that could do it quickest, the ones closer to me had long waiting lists.

As you go through your application it says to send in your confirmation that you have had your medical done and so i got mine done first to send it all in with the application. Just check out a few different approved doctors if you can, as I found price differences of up to £100 between them.

My husband had his exam done in the US and it was about $300 USD. I've heard of the cost being about $200 CDN in Canada. As for the exam itself, my husband was scared he was going to get asked to "turn his head and cough" but they didn't end up needing to. Just some blood tests and a chest x-ray. I think they are more worried about diseases like TB. Other Dr's might be different though and you can always call ahead to ask for details.

Haha, Dont be nervous. I didnt have to get naked , but i did have to wear one of those horrible paper sheets around my top and bottom. The doctor couldnt see anything though, and no genital inspection. He took blood pressure, listened to my chest, tested reflexes with that little hammer thing. Also had chest xrays, blood test and had to give urine sample too urgh! They say they will only contact you if any results come back positive. Then they forward to results straight to the visa office. In my case Mississauga. And i had the medical 2 months before I posted application. But I have checked on e-cas and they have received it. Also I paid about $200 CAD total.
Dont worry!

You have to send in proof you've done the medical with the spousal PR application, so get it done just before you send in the app. The visa office will wait and request the medical for other classes of immigrants, but not spouses and partners.
It's not a really thorough exam - I've never heard of anyone getting a genital exam, for example. They won't do a colonoscopy either. (They might, of course, if there was something in your medical history or an exam result that made them worry about that particular area.) My husband just had to strip down to his shorts.

My husbands exam for our first medical the dr asked him to drop his underpants for a moment. THere was no turn your head and cough. It was very quick as if they wanted to make sure he was male. But when he had to have a medical redo since the first one expired, they didnt ask him to drop his underpants. I realy dont know why they did that but I think it depends on the dr. He didnt have the same dr for both exams.

Canadianwoman is correct. The DMP will fill out the form and send the results off, along with those from the hospital (x-ray) to wherever they go and then London will get them once your file is transferred from Mississauga after sponsorship approval.

After the examination, they will give you the copy of what the DMP signs, almost like the carbon copy. Can't remember if it was green or white, but it MUST be included with the application, so get it done just before you send it all off to CPC-M, that way you will have the longest time possible to land after getting the visa.

As for prices, it's all dependant on the DMP. We only had one nearby and the saving wasn't worth the cost of the diesel to go elsewhere, but got stung for around £150 for medical and £70 for x-rays (plus the cost of the damn photo's!!!!)

I found this link very helpful when I was applying. I wasn't sure which country I was going to be in. I wound up doing mine in Canada for $200, it took a few hours, but was pretty regular, just blood tests and x-rays mainly. They send your information to which-ever office, when you go to a designated medical practitioner they know all about that anyway. Just make sure you check how many photos they require - every place is different. (I needed 5). Goodluck :D
