Medical Exam before

Hi,

I received an ITA in the 2nd draw in May 2018. Now need to complete the travel history and other details etc. and submit them before getting a personalized checklist.

However in the interim, i thought it would be a good idea to get the Medical out of the way as I collect the travel history and employment reference letters. But the Doctor told me that the UCI mentioned on my ITA (CANXXXXXXXX) was not appearing in his system. The only reason i can imagine is that i need to submit my additional details before it starts appearing in the medical database. I was apprehensive about the upfront medical because its quite expensive here therefore want to follow the ordinary protocol.

Apologies, but I am new to this and not aware about the various steps and terminology.

Any help would be appreciated. Has this ever happened to any one

Regards
Karan

The ordinary protocol IS getting an upfront medical. If you've never applied for a work/study/visitor's permit then you wouldn't have a UCI number at this point. If such clinic refuses to perform the medicals then try with a different one.

I already had a visit visa with a UCI of 9XXXXXXX (and traveled to Toronto) but when i got the ITA it has different UCI CAN00005XXXXXXX (X = numeric). He tried with the latter one and did not get any hits. Should he use the first one? and do you know where there are two different UCIs. I did mention the first UCI in the application.

The one starting with a 9 is your UCI number not the one starting with CAN. Once you submit your application your UCI will get updated to show the one starting with a 9. You do not have two different UCIs.

Ahaaa!!! Trip to the doctor wasted. Do you recommend that i submit the application and then get the medical or before that (i.e. without the personalized checklist being generated)?

Thanks a lot for the help, makes sense.

You should not submit your application without performing the medicals. Doing so would risk cancellation of your application due to incompleteness.

I meant the completion of the additional sections such as travel history, address history etc.. i.e. the stage a document checklist is generated? Not the final submission. What do people call this stage?

You can try completing the application to the point where personalized checklist to upload documents is generated (without final submission) and then see if they have assigned you a new UCI according to the new system.

Usually it is recommended to do the medicals close to when you'll be submitting the application as the expiry date has a relation (although not always) as to when you'll have to finish the landing procedure.

Can you please elaborate on the the relationship of the validity of medical and landing procedure? I am not sure what landing procedure means.
And what is the validity period of a medical?

Medicals are valid for one year. Usually once your application is approved and you receive your COPR (confirmation of permanent residence) you will have until a set date to land in Canada and officially become a PR.
